Default introduction

Hi, I'm new to this site as you can tell.......I'm not a native of Tennesse but I got here as fast as I could.....lived in East TN for 15 years and love the Smoky Mountains but miss the beach.

I was into photography as a teenager and owned a film Canon AE1-P with a few lenses. I had a hard time getting the shots I thougt I should get so this digital thing is just what I needed to start my interest right back up. I have slowly worked myself into a point and shoot over the past few years and come to realize that I'm missing many shots of my son's sporting events and dove into my first DSLR.......the Canon 40D. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, this is in the closet and no one knows I have it YET!!!! I have taken a few test shots but plan on learning many tips and tricks from this site before I'm SURPRISED with my camera!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope to learn a lot and maybe share some of my learning with y'all

digi.film I was terrified of self-portraits, too, until Sime and Wulf started threesixtyfive and fiftytwo, respectively. They've gotten easier with practice!

moonfire Don't be nervous! We're newbie friendly.

Jeni Nice camera, Jeni! You will have so much fun when it becomes "official" at Christmas.

dancat Cool multicolor smoke shot! Nice to have you join us.

Default Howdy!

Hey everyone, name's Jason and I'm from Alberta, Canada...

I suppose I could have joined up sooner... I've been doing digital photography for a few years now... started with an A20, upgraded over the years that followed to the A70. I just recently purchased a Digital Rebel XTi (came last Friday) and am looking forward to getting back into SLR mode. I purchased the 18-55mm and 75-300mm lenses with it so that should be a good start. Eventually I want to get the 100mm macro lens as well as I'm really into macro photography.

Looks like there is a lot of good information to be had here, and I'm looking forward to see what others have to post and say. I really like the idea of the weekly assignments and am looking forward to participating.

Hi Y'all

I'm a homemakin' homeschoolin' mama in southern Indiana. I've always loved 'taking pictures' and got my first digital camera 4 years ago--a lit'l HP point n shoot that we just flat wore out last year lol.

A week ago my husband surprised me with an Olympus SP 550 UZ whoohoo! I'm having SO much fun!! I've never tinkered with camera settings nor have I had zoom or macro capability like I do now.

I found this forum whilst browsing digital photo tips via Google. I'm already learning lots and looking forward to talking with folks who 'get' my photography kick lol.

My 12 year old daughter is very into my camera--when I let her touch it --it sure looks like Santa will have to do something about that!! She and I were browsing this site yesterday and saw the smoke assignment, we had a blast with that one while cooking supper!

Default Hello

Hi everyone!

My name is Michel, living in London, and I m pretty new to photography in general. I always liked taking pictures and watching them even more, but I only started getting seriouswith it when I had the (wonderfull) surprise of getting a Canon EOS 400D for my birthday couple of weeks ago!
Since them I'm just trying to understand how it works and experiment! I found out this website really usefull with lots of tips that I can't wait to put into practise, so here I am!
Thanks to everyone in advance for help and suggestions!

I put couple of pics I took here: http://picasaweb.google.com/michel.guillon/

Haeretik Hi Jason, nice to have another XTi user here. SInce you only got it last Friday you must have had a great weekend with it! Nice to have a new toy.

WickedWildNWise Welcome to DPS! Hope to see some of your shots soon.

riverfolk It's so nice that you are able to share your photography passion with your daughter. I do the same with my daughter. It can be a wonderful lifetime activity. Welcome to you both!

Choums Hi Michel, you're another new 400D owner here. I enjoyed your Picasaweb set. That spot under the bridge has some interesting lines. Looking forward to seeing more.

hi people,

i'm jon, been thinking about getting a camera for a while. Finally got myself something just a point and shoot nothing too fancy, something to get me started. Only had it for about a month just trying to learn something new everyday and get into the habit of taking shots. Been watching the DPS RSS feed for a month or so and just thought it was about time to jump into the forums.

so hi again and i look forward to learning a lot and hopefully in time giving back

goatboy Hi Jon, glad you decided to jump in! I think it was really smart of you to pick up a point and shoot to get yourself started. You don't need a fancy camera to be a good photographer, just a desire to learn. Can't wait to see some of your shots. Try an assignment, either a current one or one from the past and have fun!
