Hi names Max Caven, I'm from Minnesota. I've been into photography for a 2 years or so now, I started with Film in my high schools photo class, now I'm on digital shooting with d40. This is my first post but I've been lurking on here for a while.

Default Hi another newbie !

Hi Guys, I'm Damo from Gloucester in England, came across these forums and was hoping to find lots of like minded people ! I mostly enjoy doing Pet Photography and Wildlife, but will give anything a go if given a job to do ! I belong to my local area forums and we have a photo contest every couple of weeks on a given subject, the winner gets to choose the next subject, thats pretty cool, and it looks like you do something similar here, so hoping to join in on that. Anyway, look forward to talking to you all, take it easy guys !

Hi I'm Gabby from Perth WA - great to see an Aussie founder here!

I've been interested in photography since I was a teenager but film development scared me off! A few years ago I bought a film slr and was staggered by the cost of the learning curve of figuring out an slr versus processing photos to see what I'd done right or wrong (which was most of the time!). When cameras went digital I quickly jumped on board and got a Konica Minolta DiMage Z10 3.2mp. I could make as many mistakes as I wanted now without costing me a thing! Then I subscribed to bunch of excellent UK photography mags and learned how to do more than my KM could. So I recently upgraded to a Canon 400D and haven't quite stopped buying lenses, filters, hoods, reflectors and anything else that is recommended that I might find useful!!!

I love forums that share info - that's why I'm here. A place to find out where the bracketing function on my camera is or how to help with my pathetic portraiture. I also enjoy the inspiration of other peoples photos. Sometimes you feel like you're all out of subjects to photograph but then you see what someone else has done and that sets you off on a new subject tangent!

Default Introducing Mathew

Hello all,

I've been browsing this site and the forums for some time, and just wanted to introduce myself. I'm a web designer / community manager in Sydney, and I've just got a Nikon D40 recently.

I'm starting to learn more about using it, and last week I was in Vanuatu on holiday. You can see some of my photos here -

Aries67 (Gabby)- Welcome fellow 400D user! All that camera equipment you're buying, think of it this way, look how much money you're saving not developing film !

Mathew- You've got some nice shots from your trip . Don't forget to post some here. Welcome to dps!

Pixlet- glad you finally joined us. Don't worry, we're gentle with everyone here ! You have a cute dog, BTW.

Good morning from sunny Atlanta!

Just found this fine forum and accompanying blog. Here's a bit (ok, a lot) about myself:

I haven't touched a camera for anything other than a quick snapshot in over 30 years, so I do rather feel like Proserpina emerging from the underworld. Wow! ISO 3200? 1/4000 shutter speeds? No darkrooms? Oh, I am so lost....

Back in the dark ages, I was an at-least-fair amateur, doing pretty much exclusively B&W as color processing was way beyond my capabilities and purse. I had access to a university darkroom with fabulous equipment and did all my processing there. After I graduated, I tried to continue B&W, but was frustrated at not having access to a darkroom. Switched to color but budget considerations meant less-than-wonderful equipment choices (more frustration), and the processing ate me alive. Thus began the slow decline into snapshot land.

I recently saw the Annie Liebovitz exhibit at the High Museum in Atlanta, and decided I've got to do this again before I die. I never felt more alive than when I was behind a camera or in a darkroom.

Where do I begin? What do I need? How much of what I know (or can dredge up out of my memory) is still applicable?

Anybody want to help an old lady cross the street?

Proserpina
