Default Hi from Perth, Western Australia

Hi, my name is Grayham and I've been involved with photography since the mid 70's so I am quite an old hand when it comes to slrs, film, asa, darkrooms and so on. About 3 years ago I went digital and that opened up a whole new world of photography to me. So now I'm back to buying photo magazines and books to learn about digital.

Whilst I still have all my old gear, in terms of digital, I originally bought a Sony A100 with two kit lenses but recently acquired an A350 body and an awesome Minolta AF 2.8 70-200 G series SSM lens that is now my pride and joy

Whilst living in South Africa I enjoyed motorsport, wedding and wildlife photography here in Oz I've taken to landscapes, seascapes and am venturing out on bird life.
Hopefully I will be able to post some of my SA wildlife images taken in Sept 08 during a return visit to SA game reserves with my Aussie partner AND in time some landscapes as I master this subject over time.

I look forward to some inter-action with this community through which I can share my knowledge and obtain some of yours as well.

Regards

Default Hello!

Hello,

My name is Matt, and I'm from the greater Seattle area. My wife and I are just getting started in digital photography. We got a Nikon D300 last year and feel like we've barely scratched the surface of what we can do. Our favorite subjects are swim meets (our boys swim), dog agility trials (we both run our dogs), and nature/landscapes. I'm looking forward to learning and improving.

Matt

Hello Everybody!

My name is Della, I was very excited to find this site, I have already been thru several tutorials, they are great! I guess I have been loving to take pictures since I went to science camp in 6th grade and my parents gave me a camera to take along, that was a long time ago in the late 70's. I live in Northern California, work full time, have 3 kids 20, 15 and 10. My hubby and I have been married for 21 years next month. I don't find a lot of time to take pictures sadly, but I really crave it sometimes! I got lucky recently and got the okay to take pictures at every freshman football game for my Sons high school team, that was awesome, for months I got to shoot every single Thursday! I have had a lot of cameras over the years. I now have a Nikon D80 with two kit lenses and my new Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR I spoiled myself with to get better low light football shots! Good excuse huh! It's gonna be along time before I get any new equipment for sure 8>)

Looking forward to being apart of DPS

Della

Hi,

I'm Ginger and I've dabbled in photography on and off since high school when I sold a picture to a Arabian breeder to use in an ad for a national breed magazine. Unfortunately, I didn't get a copy of it. Then when I moved to Arizona to train horses, I was sent to Williams for a couple of months. Due to a mix-up, I ended up getting two checks at the same time and decided to spend the "extra" money on a camera. Went to the local store and bought myself a Minolta x370, which was the fanciest camera they had in the case (1982). That camera has taken more abuse with being covered in arena dust, bumps and drops as it was used to take pictures of horses mainly until my daughter was born.

I bought my Rebel a little over a year ago after trying out my daughter's new Rebel. And I was finally sold on the whole digital thing. And I'm loving it.... but my new year resolution this year was to stop treating it like a PnS.... the only thing I've ever taken control of is the focus.

No real classes in photography, but I hope to change that this summer.

G'day from downunder. Good to see so many Antipodeans on the boards!

I've been 'interested' in photography for ages, but never had spare money for expensive cameras. I bought a Zenit, sometime back in the 70s I think, and had a lot of fun with it, learning by accident. With no TTL metering, it was always a bit of a gamble. I think it was sometime during the 80s that I bought a second-hand Pentax and a 105mm lens and thought I was 'it' and a bit! Much less guesswork.

Starting a family in 1990, there wasn't much time for photography, so the family moved to point and shoot. I inherited my father's 35mm Fujica SLR and 70–200 Tamron in ’99, and had a bit more of a play 'round.

I purchased our first digital camera, a Canon Powershot A400, and discovered the economy of removing film and processing from the equation! After a few years, I was becoming increasingly frustrated by the p&s, so began hatching plans to acquire a DSLR. Finally, a couple of weeks ago, I took delivery of my brand spanking new Pentax K-m (K2000 in some markets I believe). Well, I'm now officially obsessed (according to my wife!).

I discovered DPS while waiting for the big day to arrive and I've learned so much and gained so many ideas. When I took the K-m out of the box and turned it on, the complexity was, frankly, quite daunting. I soon figured that if I switched to full manual operation, it was pretty much like I was used to with the 35mm SLRs, and I haven't looked back. That automatic focus thing is pretty good though. Means I don't have to rely on the view through coke-bottle spectacles!

With all of the challenges, assignments, tutorials and sharing, I'm sure it'll be no time before I'm getting the max out of my new toy! Don't tell my wife, but I'm already recognising some shortcomings in the K-m!

Away from photography, I work with computers as a sort of software educator. I completed a Masters degree in Virtual Communication in 2006 and I'm developing a business plan to hang out my shingle as a consultant in that field.

Default Intro...

Long time reader, first time poster... Hello there from the shores of old lake erie in Ohio. My name is Dan and I am getting back into photography from a hiatus, and loving every minute of it!

I am a very happily married man with two beautiful children who are the reason that I wake up every morning, and sometimes quite literally as they call my name in the morn as my wife loves her sleep! My son is 4 and my daughter is 2.

As I said, I am getting back into photography. It all started when I was in high school with yearbook and then I started buying some of my own equipment... well then college came... the wedding and the kids... not really alot of time for true photography, and lost alot of great pics by only having a point and shoot lyin around as my Ricoh KR5II just sat in the bag and now with film gone... for the most part I am enjoying getting back into it with a new Nikon D40 for starters. We were saving up for getting into a little more pixels and options, but had a stellar deal on the 40 as it was discontinuing, and so now I am using it to "re-learn" and building up a savings fund for alot larger camera down the road.

Living on Lake Erie I am blessed with many lighthouses and beautfiul sunsets, but I also like to do alot of still work and landscapes... I have set some goals for myself this year and I am doing pretty decent with them so far... but have a while to go and am actually starting goals for 2011 including a 365 project

I love looking on here and especially the share your shots, and the how i took it forums..
