Howdy all. I'm new to photography...having just graduated from a digital point & shoot to my first DSLR - a Canon XTi 400D with kit lens that I bought off a buddy of mine for a deal I just couldn't pass up. I've been surfing the net looking for info on how to use it and stumbled across this place. Looks like a friendly sort of place that I'm looking forward to learning from!

Finally had time to look around at photography boards, and seen this one. I have a Canon XTI, and a Canon is point and shoot. I have been really interested in photos my whole life. I worked as a structural engineer for 15 years, traveling all over the US. I had quite a collection of pictures when I was on my way home, the car caught fire and everything was burnt up but me and my dog. Took me awhile to develop an interest in photography, but i am snappin' away again at whatever looks cool. I was a film person, and now with all this new digital equipment out, there is so much to learn and do. I take a lot of outdoors shots, concert photos when I can, dog pictures, and recently have been experimenting with reflection shots. Like trees that are reflecting in the water which makes the viewer not know if it's real or it's reflection in the water. I live in an area that has many outdoor festivals in the summer, with bands from the 70's and 80's. I am retired so I have a lot of time. Nothing published, but I have done some weddings. I really enjoy looking at photos, and try to see what the person was thinking when they took the picture. People have looked at my photos and said I should sell some, so I am looking into that also. But first I need to learn how to take pictures, other than point and shoot. Thanks

Hey everyone,
Time for me to introduce myself as well ![]() My name is Max Jensch, I'm 25 years old and live in the Netherlands. Currently I'm finishing my MSc degree in Human-Computer Interaction. I am living together with my girlfriend for a couple years now, and we have to very sweet cats (also, see photostream ).My hobbies include playing around with PS and 3DS Max 2010, webdesign, and recently a more serious approach to photography. My gear is a Canon PowerShot SX110 IS. I do have some old equipment lying around, a Minolta SRT 101b and a couple of lenses+flash (the latter I plan on using today as a matter of fact), however as my understanding of photography is just beginning to develop, shooting film is probably not the best way to go. I am planning on finding a dslr body to mount my old lenses on, provided that they will fit :P Finally, here's a link to my photostream on Flickr: Max Jensch' Flickr photostream |

Hi Darren,
call me vonita and i live in Brisbane. i started to like to take photos since my trip to New Zealand in 2007 and been taking pictures whenever i am free. i am using canon ixy digital 70 (japan version) but most of my photos i didnt edit as i want it as original as possible. i wanted to know why most photographers edit their photos using the software etc - is that means that the photos are not genuine anymore? why do you need to touch up by adding some layers to it ... now adays if i saw a picture book, i dont feel it is genuinely taken as it has been reformat to something else that the photographers expected. |

Hello,
I missed this presentation thread, so my apologize. My name is Rafael Hernandez, I live in Orange County, California in the United States. I am kind of new to the digital photography, I mean, real digital photography because I have had some experience taking digital snapshots using the point & shot cameras, in fact I bought my first digital camera around the year 2000. Before that I used a full manual SLR 35mm from Pentax with a telephoto and wideangle lenses. I recently had finally the chance to buy a DSLR, I bought a Nikon D3000 kit a month ago, and a couple of weeks later I got a Nikkor AF 70-300mm G lens. I like to make photos of everything: landscapes, macros, portraits, sports, cars, etc. But what I really take my attention is the portraits and the macro photos, I love the blur of a big focal length. I see a lot of experienced photographers here and I hope to learn a lot from the community, I am a total amateur in photography but always looking for improvement and for learning. I hope to contribute with the few things I know and the very little experience I have so far in digital photography, and also to help on topics related to software, operating systems or whatever general chit chat or questions you may have regarding technology and computers, since I am a Computer Business Science professional, so any question please feel free to shot. Thanks for this space!! |
