Hello

I recently started a 365 photography blog here: M. Taylor/Project 365

A little about me... I'm 25 years old. I went to school to become an electronics technician in 02-04... I worked in that field for about 4 years. I was miserable. In August I decided to do photography full-time. I am now a product photographer for a local jewelry/apparel boutique. I love it! I hope to return to school for a B.S. in photography soon. We'll see how it goes.

Most of my shots are taken with a Nikon D40 and Vivitar 285HV. I hope to move up to a full-frame sensor soon.

- Matthew

Greetings and all good things!

I'm Dan and I am getting back into photography after a LONG hiatus. I used to do a lot of photography during the heyday of the film photography (early 1980's) era. I had my own darkroom and did a lot of color slides (35 mm). I, also, dabbled in a lot of B/W photography (6 x 7 mm film). I am now doing woodworking (clocks and pens) and am wanting to do a better job of photographing my woodworking. I am using a Kodak EasyShare Z712 IS camera. I do take it out of Auto Mode and I like to control the aperture for better depth of field control (in macro mode). I would appreciate any and all ideas and suggestions. I will be going over this website with a "comb" in order to advance in my digital photography skills.

Dan

Default Getting to know me

Howdy Y'all,

First things first...thanks for the great forum. I'm sure I will learn much while reviewing the various topics. My name is Chuck, I'm a mis-placed Texan (Corpus Christi) who now lives in Bellevue, Nebraska. Years ago when film was popular, I ran a part time photography business (8 years) doing portraits, team photos, weddings, and various other projects. After I ended my business (long story), I put my cameras away for awhile. When digital cameras hit the market I gradually strolled back to photography strictly as a hobby. I use a Cannon EOS Rebel with the standard 18 ~ 55mm zoom lens, and a Cannon Power Shot A55 (point and shoot) which I tend to grab first. It's also fair to mention that I use my iPhone camera for those occasional "quick and grab" photos.

For the past couple of years (before retiring in May) I used my cameras mainly for work on various websites that I maintained. Now that I'm retired, I plan to keep photography on a "hobby level".

My biggest highlight in the field of photography was meeting Ansel Adams in person (in his gallery in Yosemite) and having the opportunity to talk to him about photography and learning first hand about the work he did in Yosemite National Park so many years ago. I studied his zonal system for what seemed like years during the years I "splished splashed" in my dark room. Adams was a very interesting man whose talents continues to amaze me.

Howdy Chuck --

We are neighbors. I live in Council Bluffs! 'Tis funny that two people from the Omaha metro area got signed up here at the same time! I find your story re: meeting Ansel Adams fascinating! (I love B/W photography ala Adams). The reason I got out of photography in the early '80's was because too many people were making too many demands and it was no longer a "hobby". I'm glad you are going to keep your photography that way!

Dan

Hello all,

My name is Jessica and I came upon DPS a month or two ago while looking for photography tips. great site by the way! I've been taking photos since high school, did black & white film photo stuff in college too, and worked in a commercial lab for a couple years afterwards. I've done a little professional work assisting wedding photographers but mostly enjoy taking photos on my own for fun. Right now I'm in grad school for library and information science in digital imaging, so I can work around cameras (80 MP ones!) and computers and books all day long

The camera I use now is my four-year-old Canon 20D with the kit lens, although I would really like to get a 35mm prime. I miss the 50mm macro lens I had on my Canon A-1

My dream camera would be a full frame outfit and/or a Mamiya 4x5 with an endless supply of film And one of those phones that look like point-n-shoot cameras on the other end. But for now I abide by the adage: "The best camera is the one you're with."

Cheers!
Jessica

Hello everyone!

I've been lurking for some time, and recently decided to participate. This site is an incredible wealth of information and inspiration.

Years ago, I took a B&W photography course in high school, and after I got my 'A' I never picked up a camera until this summer. My folks gave me some hand-me-down gear after I became addicted to digital photography. After taking some shots at my cousin's wedding, I decided to take a digital photography course at the local community college.

I've already posted a few images, including the latest assignment about holiday memories. I'm looking forward to growing as a photographer and post processor.

Thanks for the site - can't wait to see what the future brings.

Warm regards,

Rob
