My name is Phil. I have been doing photography (on and off) for about 40 years. I am retired now and have been for 6 years. My interest has picked up since the inception of the digital format (I started out with an HP 2.3mp camera) and have now graduated to the Canon xTi dslr. As a film photographer for those many years (and having my own darkroom), I am amazed at the digital technology and how great it is to just sit at the computer and create...
Learning is and has been paramount in my life and I thrive on new things, new adventures...I have been looking at DPS for some time now and you have one of the best sites for learning and growing in this field...I expect to be around for a long time and hope we can all grow together sharing each others' successes (and failures)...It is with our failures that we truly learn... Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this... The famous photographer Alfred Eistenstadt said (just prior to his death) that he "wished he could have more time to explore this new digital world"... Thank you again for this...

Ok, let's see.
I'm Mel and I've seen people on my father's side of the family taking pictures for as long as I can remember. Grandma was born in '21 and has her youth pretty well-documented, and I guess it was passed on, from spending so much time going through her carefully crafted albums. My dad used a Praktica for more than 25 years, then got himself a Canon APS point'n'shoot, then in '03 I guess a Nikon N65. By then we already had our first digital camera, a Sony DSC-P52, and in '05 I was really interested in a dSLR, but we couldn't afford one. I had been "taking pictures" (casually, just for the sake of the "moment") for over 10 years, and so I got a Sony DSC-H1, which is still my faithful companion. But in August '08, we were finally able to get our hands on a Nikon D200. It soon became clear to us that this whole "digital photography" thing was much more difficult than we had thought (so many buttons compared to the N65!) and even though it's been almost a year, me and the camera spent half of it apart, since I moved out. Now I just got it back, and will see if I can take it out for a spin soon. Of all the photography-related forums I've come around, I honestly think the DPS will be the most helpful! Sorry for the verbose intro...

Greeting everyone.
I am Nor from Malaysia and I am 41 years old. I am a housewife, mother and a grandmother now. Before this I took pictures from my Nokia N70 but now I own Nikon coolpix P90. Actually I want to own DSLR but it is to expensive for me so I choose this. I had a lots of thing to learn about photography so I decided to sign up here. DPS has a lot of techniques discussion and this can help me to improve my skills. I had open a flickr account, do come and visit my photostream at Flickr: Mamzie's Photostream And please tell me what do you think about my pictures.

Hi everyone, i'm Meg from Virginia. I've been playing with photography on and off for 2 years now, but have always been interested with it. I shoot with a Nikon d40x and have only taken one class to teach me the basics of how to use a DSLR. I'm a full time student and full time employee so free time to shoot is very rare. I've been browsing DPS for a while now and i love the tips and articles and just how friendly everyone is. I hope Joining this site will kick me into gear and really get me out there shooting again.

My name is Ray Dockrey and I live in Mustang, Oklahoma. I am married and have three teenage kids. I have been an avid fan of photography since I was a kid but never took it serious. I have been shooting digital now for two years with my main focus being our high school marching band. What started out as just taking pictures of my kids has grown to me taking pictures of all the kids. Our marching band this year is 180 kids so i will stay busy.
Gear: For the last two years I have been shooting with a Nikon D40x with various lenses. I just moved up last week to a D200 that I got used for a great deal. |

Hello everyone!! Boy did I find this late! I don't believe I have been in the "General Chat" area before, so I will introduce myself
My name is Josette, and I live in New Jersey. About two years ago I started really falling hard for photography. It was right after I was in this stale spot in my life where nothing was happening and I felt like there had to be more. I have been learning photography for the last year and I enjoy having DPS as a mentor and guide along the way. Almost everything that I know has been from this site, and when I am not taking pictures or reading about photography, I am here! I will be getting married in September, and I am totally thrilled I can't wait until the day comes, where I can call myself a professional photographer and create my own successful studio! Thank you for all that you do DPS!!
