Smile G'day from Port Lincoln Australia

Hi Everybody

My interest in photography goes back quite a few years. I have had a Canon A1 film camera for many years. I had a bit of success in competitions many years ago but business and issues forced my photography in to the back ground. I currently use a Kodak DPS for family snaps.

I have joined the forum for two specific purposes.

To aquire more knowledge about digital photography and cameras with the intention of purchasing a DSLR

And to find the knowledge to enable me to take very good still life photos of small objects, mainly my collection of Australian Military Knives. I am experimenting with light boxes and cant get it quite right. I have purchased one and made two, I am constructing the Mk3 version right now.

So I will probably be asking what seem pretty dumb and basic questions at times.

I would be interested to here from anyone who has an interest in photographing small objects.

Regards John

Hi, my name is Daisy and this is my first post, so far. I have found DPS's website to be very helpful so far, so I decided to join in the forum as well. I recently (end of June 09) got my first DSLR! well first SLR as a matter of fact. I have always loved taking pictures, ever since my first purple 110 camera I had in grade school. I have managed to get some great shots with my dinky point and shoots in years past and hit a wall last summer when I just couldn't get the results I wanted. I then came to learn the reason, I wasn't able to alter all the settings I needed, which I now can do with my DSLR.

I bought a Nikon D60 and have one lens - the kit lens (18-55mm VR). I have my eye on two more lenses (the 50mm and the 55-200mm both AF-S), but it'll be awhile before I can aquire those... not until I save up again - man this hobby can be pricey

I've been using Photoshop Elements to edit and hope to learn a lot more. I used to think editing was cheating, but now I realize it's a talent. I know i can get some awesome SOOC shots, but can I make them super with editing... hopefully someday.

I'm learning and loving it!! And look forward to talking with some fellow photography lovers.

Default Greetings

Hi my name is Greg. I picked up a nikon D60 last december and the photo bug bit hard. I've been playing around with it off and on since I bought it and have decided that I want to learn how to use it better. I'm hoping finding this web site and forum will help move me along in my new hobby.

Default Newbie :)

Hi everyone. I'm 23 from Maryland. I have a D40 with the 2 kit lenses that were available, the Nikkor 18-55 and the 55-200 VR. I'm a single dad of a 3 year old and I don't have much time to get out and take photos. I have been an auto tech for 4 years (3 years at GM and jumped ship to Honda for 1 now).

Anyways I hope to learn a lot from everyone here, I'll post up some photos soon!

*edit* I didn't see the intro thread could someone move it please

Oh that is no problem. I think people are more worried about new people flooding the critiques section with 800 images. That is usually the biggest problem we have here.

Default Another intro

Hello everyone! I just picked up my first DSLR last week, and found this forum while looking for tips. This will be a great resource for me, and I appreciate all the help I can get from this forum!

I have always enjoyed photography, and use pictures as substitutes for souvenirs for when I travel. For me, pictures capture the essence and moments a lot better than some collectable. Entering into the DSLR world is a big step, with the possibility to greatly increase my photo quality, but at the same time pose an unending challenge to myself.

Thanks in advance to all those whose advice I look forward to reading!

Default 'Ello!

Hey everyone. I'm obviously new to these forums, and fairly new to photography. I got my first camera this last February for my birthday. It's a Kodak EasyShare Z760 (P&S). I didn't quite know how to work it outside of Auto mode for awhile, but lately I have been getting the hang of using the Manual mode. I hope to contribute some of my (limited) knowledge and some of my pictures to the forums. I look forward to looking at pics you all have taken, expanding my knowledge about photography, and hopefully some day I hope to know enough to critique some of your photographs like I hope you will mine, thanks!
