Default Introducing Myself To You All

Hello , my name is Conor. I'm from Tipperary, Ireland and have lived in NY for fourteen years. My wife recently bought me a Nikon D60 as a gift to celebrate our second wedding anniversary. My wife had known for a while that I craved one and I was thrilled to get it. The D60 is my first DSLR and of course I was hungry to learn how to use it and get the best from it and me.

I've spent the last several weeks trying to find a good source to learn from. I bought David Busch's Guide to the D60 and am learning a lot , looked at several boards and when I happened upon this one I knew I could stop looking. Really over the last few days I have spent hours on here reading the " tips & tutorials" for beginners section and am really enjoying it, very helpful but not talking down to me, love that.

I look forward to hopefully contributing and learning here.

Conor

Default Hello Everyone

Hi All

I am Pratik from Melbourne, Australia.

Sometimes in the beautiful journey of life, one gets fascinated by the things and images which one sees around and wishes that these images always come by over and over again. Photography helps me capture these wonderful images which I can always go back to and feel nostalgic about. There is so much beauty and serenity to capture in this world. I took up photography due to this very reason and one day whilst googling something, I came across this wonderful forum and I have been hooked to it ever since.

I recently purchased a Nikon D60, later got a tripod, and a remote (i love the remote ). Slowly I want to build my collection of lenses.

A little about me: I have completed my Masters from Monash University, currently am working, doing my CPA and take lots of pictures when Im not working or studying

All the best everyone and happy picture taking!

Ciao
Prtk.

Default another newbie says hello

I must say how refreshing it is to see such an international community in this forum! I never expected that, but it is a pleasant surprise.

My husband bought me a sony point-and shoot for christmas/yule this past winter & I have quickly outgrown it. So as a reward for finishing our taxes on time (and saving us $7,000 in the process) he bought me a new Nikon CoolPix P90.

Haven't had much time to learn it, because shortly thereafter I took sick with the swine flu. Feeling better now - a mere 3 weeks later - and ready to get back into it.

No photography classes close by, so I am thrilled to find this forum. Looking forward to seeing all of your photos and finding my niche.

~Keiko

(just a username for this site, not my real life name, although I am studying Buddhism and trying to make time to learn Japanese, so I thought it would be a nice fit)

oh yes... the personal details: I have 30 years of life experience, I live in Central Florida, I am married (and looking to add on), I have given birth to one gorgeously intelligent child, and spend my days keeping up with household chores and her favorite unschooling subjects (animals, art, nature, athletics, and Thomas the Train)

Default Myself

Hello,
I'm a Senior Unix Administrator with interests in photography which is quickly turning into a hobby. I'm looking for techniques and learning how to use my new camera, a Nikon D90. Help would be appreciated!

I'd like to learn how to use my camera better, get tack sharp images, and generally good pictures that I can be proud of. I'm a quick learning, but sometimes lack that creative eye. I'm learning however, and need to bring my camera with me more often. I've learned to look at random object, and pick a perspective that may be different. My problem, is getting the camera set up so that it takes the shot I imagined in my head...

I'm also looking for photo walks/groups, etc in the MD area. Anyone interested? I'm north of Baltimore.

Thanks!
Frd

Hi there! My name is Mauricio; from Costa Rica, Central America.

My recent interest in photography started last year when I found myself without a camera to take pictures of my kids in their chorus presentations. They are 7 and 10 years old and part of a chorus as part of their musical training (guitar and piano, respectively). Luckily we borrowed a camera which happened to be a Panasonic Lumix DZ something … a DSLR-like body.

So, recently I found a canon S5is at ebay which I grabbed for $167 … I just could not resist to what I considered to be a bargain and my chance to get a decent camera. Since then, I have been trying to learn about the camera and photography.

I found this website as part of my online search for information and stuck to it. I’ve learned a lot here (and expect to learn more and more …). I want to thank Darren for providing this space, current member for sharing their expertise and their great and inspiring pictures. I hope I can contribute somehow with the fellow members, to be honest, I still cannot figure out how, but time will tell.

Looks like I found a new hobby, and to be honest the main reason I subscribed is the assignments. I kind of need a little push to keep me interested in things and it looks like the assignments will do the trick

Thanks a lot!

Default Noobie :o)

Hi, I'm from Aberdeen in Scotland. Photography has been my hobby only for around 6 months. I was made redundant from my job, used the redundancy money to go trekking around South East Asia and had borrowed a camera from a friend for the trip.

Nobody was more surprised than myself at how much I enjoyed photography and when I got home I bought a Nikon D40, a wide angle and zoom lens. I never go anywhere without it )

Anyway, I haven't been able to find another job in my field of work, so this got me to thinking about the future and what I wanted to do. The idea of sitting behind a desk for the next 35 years until retirement doesn't leave me feeling all warm and fuzzy with anticipation.

Given that, after a lot of thought, I've decided to go to college as a mature student and study toward gaining a BA in Photography.

I look forward to being involved in the forums and getting to know you.

)

Hello, I'm Tootsiekitty, although I tend to go by Tk. I'm a 17 year old high schooler and I also go to college part time. (I love it, but it leaves me very little free time!)

I first became interested in photography about a year ago, in February. (That was a weird day... when I had just reached the furthest point I could get from the road, the first ice cream truck that I'd ever heard on my street came by. I ran like mad for it but I still missed it xD. I always keep a few dollars in my camera case, so I'll be prepared if it happens again.) I figure that since I've been at it for a little over a year now, I might as well take time to learn more about it.

I use a Pentax S60. It's old and a bit fussy, but it works xD. I want to learn how to make it work off AUTO mode, because I think I will be much more successful that way. I hope I get to know everyone soon ^_^!

Thanks,
Tk

Default Complete Newbie!

My name is Jen, from London, Ontario (Canada). I'm 29 and have always been interested in learning about photography, but am just now getting serious about it. I am taking a digital photography course and am loving it! I especially love scenic/nature shots and still photography. I'm just amazed at what people can do, and hope to someday have these skills too!
I have a Canon Rebel XS (just the 18-55 lens for now). I'm happy to have found this forum and am already finding it very helpful.
