I have had an interest in photography since in my teens, but have not had a chance to do much because of lack of funds (with the cost of developing film, etc.) At one point I purchased a used SLR camera and did a few things with it, and I loved that. But again I didn't get really far in developing skill. My goal was and is to do a lot of nature photography. I don't mind doing other types, such as people and things, macro, etc., but like to deal with nature mainly. Now that I have had two digital cameras (but not SLR digital), I have been able to practice a lot more. I have tried to learn as many tips from the Kodak site and other sites as I can. Of course, I learn quite a bit from just looking at the photos of good photographers online. But I need to learn a lot more. That's one reason I am here. Hopefully, maybe, I can learn to give beginners a few tips even, as well as learning myself. --Kathryn

Hi .... My name is Duncan Scott. I have been interested in Photography for about 35 years. Started with an old Miranda SLR (totally manual) that weighed a ton! But took very good pics. Used to do my own developing, but had to put all that aside to pursue a family and career.... My daughter wanted a 'good' SLR about 6 years ago so I got her a Pentax film SLR...which started me looking at the new digitals....which started me back into the hobby!!! Purchased a Panasonic FZ-20 with a Lieca lens, shot with that for a few years and now am using a Nikon D60 with many lenses... I was looking for a forun just like this to share experiances and pics... Thanks for the opportunity ...!!!

Hi, my name is Bard Trimble and I live in Chattanooga Tennessee. I try to design websites LOL and am attending school to learn microsoft software. I am also fascinated with film and photography. Recently in Chattanooga, the local AVA and Allied Arts Association( non- profit org) opened a lab to the public with use of their equipment(macs, digital cams and video cams, lighting?, rental and classes in final cut, photoshop etc.). This is something I feel a passion for and can't wait to obtain more knowledge through use of the forum and classes.
eventually,I would love to create a portfolio and advertise my work on a website I'm designing . I'm somewhat proficient in XHTML and CSS but am curently reading about **********. I know nothing about photography and hope to learn!!

My name is Eliete, I live in Brasilia-Brazil. I always loved photography, but in the film times it was a very expensive hobby for me, so, just recently I started to have fun with a point and shoot digital camera. Last month I bought a Rebel Xsi and I know that is a hard work ahead waiting for me. That's it, I'm an apprentice.

Hello. My name is Gloria. I've had an interest in photography for as long as I can remember. I don't recall how old I was when I got my first camera, but it was a Mickey Mouse camera! I planned to take a photography course when I was in college. It included learning how to develop photos in a darkroom. (That may give you an idea of my age!) I saved the money for a 35mm SLR and the darkroom equipment required for the course and planned to take it in my last year of college. In my senior year, I enrolled in the photography class as planned. Then, my car broke down. I had to take the money I had saved to repair the car. Some years later, shortly after I got married, my husband bought me a Nikon 35mm. I loved it, but I never took it off full auto. I took great pictures over the years, but learned nothing about photography. I dropped the camera about 5 years ago and can't find anyone that will repair it. I'm heartbroken over it now, because my husband (who later became my ex-husband, but remained a good friend) died three years ago.
About a year and a half ago, I decided there was no reason that I couldn't buy myself a camera and go take that photography course now. I bought a Canon Rebel XTi and took a short course and several workshops at a community college. I haven't looked back. I began to purchase lenses and other gear, and just bought a 40 D. I'm having such a wonderful time! What I hope to get out of participating on this forum is exactly what I've been getting already - encouragement, opportunities to learn and to share, commaraderie, tips and techniques, inspiration, and hope that one day I can actually call myself a photographer. What I hope to contribute is the same. Thank you, Darren for starting and running this site. Thank you to all of the moderators for your time, your expertise, and your patience with all of us who aspire to create beautiful photos. I spend more time on this site than any other. I feel as though everyone here is a friend. It's a pleasure to meet all of you. |

Good day all. My name is Steve Gray; I've been keeping up with the site via RSS for some time now, and just decided to join and participate in things myself.
I've been a semi-pro photographer for the past year, active amateur for a long time before that. I've done several weddings, a few portrait shoots, tons of social events, and some business photography. I try to keep my retouching subtle, unless I want to declare it is an "image" rather than a photograph; it all depends on for who or what I'm taking the photos. Most of my work can be seen on my SmugMug page, and I keep an almost-current stream of photos on my blog. I'm always open to critique if anyone wants to stop by one of the two, and I plan on posting some photos here in the near future. My current gear is a Canon Digital Rebel XTi, with 17-85mm IS, 18-55mms IS kit, and 70-300mm IS lenses. I'm planning on some serious upgrading in November when the new Canon 5D arrives, and hopefully adding a Zeiss 135mm f1.8 lens to my arsenal. |
