Hello, my name is Matt and after lurking for many months I've decided to start posting. I live down in Southern California. I love photography and I got a Nikon D300 when they first came out last November. That really sparked an interest in learning more about how to control the camera, rather than having the camera control my photographs.

I have a computer background so I have an easier time understanding the technology side and the post-processing. Composition and general creativity is where I struggle, but I think this is a great community to learn from!

Default UmmI

Hi there,
I've just registered and I'm hoping to learn more about photography. I'm told that I have "an eye" for good shots but so far all my pictures were point and shoot. So I'd like to learn more about the science behind taking pictures and get better in it, if possible!

I have Sony DSC H2, not sure if thats a good camera but I hope it's good enough.I just need to learn what aperature and depth of field etc mean

So get ready for lots of dumb questions!

Hi Everyone!

My name is Kimberly and I live in Ohio with my husband and our 3 "children" -- two male chocolate labs and a female German shepherd. I've been interested in photography for about 5 years, which is about the time my husband and I started to travel more. I've only been serious about it since May of this year, which is when I made the leap from a Sony Cybershot point-and-shoot to a Nikon D40. I realize the D40 isn't the beefiest of dslr's, but I really want to take my time learning and didn't want to feel overwhelmed with a more complicated camera.

I've started a blog called Nikon Novice. I'm hoping it will help me stay on track with my photography learning, because I happen to be a huge procrastinator. I'm also learning that photography can be a very expensive hobby, but I love it anyway!

Default Hello

I guess this is a good place for my first post, no?

I've always been a so-so photographer and only really took pictures during holidays & family events. A few years back I received a Canon Powershot A310 as a gift, but got frustrated when I couldn't make it do what I wanted. Chances are I was probably expecting too much from it, but what did I know?

Fast forward to now. Earlier this week I bought a Fujifilm S700 because I wanted to be able to take my bad pictures with a better camera, and because I got a real good price on it.

I wound up here at DPS because I read Darren's other blog and decided maybe I could learn a thing or two over here. After all, I really can't blame the camera for my bad pictures anymore...

So hello to all of you and here's hoping I actually learn something.

Hello!

My name is Felicia and I just joined this forum a couple of days ago after my hubby sent me a link that he found on Ebaum's World of all places. I have been hooked ever since!

Anyway, I am a happily married mother of two kiddos. We have a six year old son and a four year old daughter.

I have always had an interest in photography and my paternal grandfather was a professional photographer. However, I have just begun trying my hand at it in the last couple years. I shoot with a Canon Rebel XTi and love it.

Default Newbie signing in...

I've looked for a lot of online resources and stumbled across DPS when looking for tips on shooting fireworks July 4th of this year. What a find...

Daren thanks for all of your effort and I trust it has turned out to a good living for you and your family.

My name is Marsh, I'm from Ohio in the United States and have always had a camera in my hand, but I'm just an amateur. I've found that photography is my true avocation and having a resource like DPS to depend on is a wonderful thing.

I have three great kids 18-20-22 and my wife is my best friend and the love of my life. It's a wonder she hasn't killed me by now, but I'll take all the luck I can get.

I'm here to learn all I can, and am particularly interested in learning about using Apple's Aperture software. If anyone can point me in the right direction for that, I would greatly appreciate it.

Default Hi

Hi, I am Ryan Cunningham from Palmer, Alaska. I'm 18 and only just got started with photography when i bought a Canon Powershot SX100. My Grandmother bought me a book on digital photography, which i thoroughly digested 2 or 3 times. Other than that I do not have much experience in digital photography. I'm looking forward to learning and sharing all I can on this awesome website.

Hi All,

My names Richard and I have been lurking around the Blog for a while. Thought it was about time to join the forum. (And I have already managed to accidentally run foul of the rules. Sorry )

I was fairly interested in photography years ago, the I sort of took a 10 year break, only pointing and shooting where I needed.

A few months ago I decided I needed a new hobby to try and address the work/life balance so spent my lunch money on a Nikon D40 kit. (OK it was more then my lunch money but I wasn't feeling hungry and bought it on a lunch time).

Then shortly afterwards I bought a cheap Sigma 70-300mm. It was £90 brand new but the old saying is true, you do get what you pay for.

I tried to keep the cost low, didn't know if I would fall out of the hobby again and have lots of expensive equipment lying around. This strategy didn't last long. I bought a tri-pod from Jessops for <£30 and it was not very stable. Then decided to get any decent shots I would just have to start spending more.

My birthday was approaching so thought I'd better wait and see what I got. Photography wise I got a Nikon SB-600 flash, Velbon Maxi 347GB tripod and a camera bag to store all my stuff in. (Before the camera bag I was carrying the stuff around in one of those supermarket bag for life bags.)

I then waited for the D700 to come out, used it and then bought one last Monday. Then whilst drinking I thought it would be a good idea to buy a bunch off lenses off ebay. I borrowed a mates Nikon 50mm F/1.8 last week, he then told me he was looking to sell it so I bought it. (He has a DX sensor and didn't find any condition where he would need 75mm @ 35mm equiv lens.

Other then the above, I'm a Husband and Father, from the UK. From the Midlands but I'm spending a lot of time in London at the moment. I'm an I.T Consultant by trade.
