hi everyone,

I'm pamela from the philippines. I've been reading DPS for months now but I joined in just recently.

I've been so interested in photography eversince high school but never really got into it coz it was so expensive back then when there weren't any digital cams.
Up until college, I've been particularly interested in very nice photos and got into the habit of digging the net for the most beautiful landscapes on earth.

Not until last year that I thought of taking photography as a hobby and actually "creating" the pictures and not only looking at them. But I got very lonely as I didn't know anyone back then to appreciate the art. So this is what brought me to DPS. I don't know what took me so long to sign up.

Unfortunately,I couldn't afford a DSLR yet so I'm still sticking to my husbands Canon Powershot which is like 5 years old.

I've learned a great deal from DPS and sometimes I think I can compose the shot in my head even without being at the scene.

More power DPS!

pamela15_s, Welcome

Hope you enjoy DPS as much as I do. If there's anything you have questions on, let us know. The site's growing, so it's easy to get a little lost. Just holler, we'll find you!

Hi all. I'm another one of those newbies with a new DSLR, wide-eyed at all the possibilities that now seem open, thinking I can take on the world. I've had my camera 2 days so I'm pressing all the buttons and fiddling with all the dials. Much oooing and ahhing has ensued.

I joined this forum in the hopes of learning more about photography, of course, but also to learn about photographers. It's really interesting to see life through your lenses and it's great that I can do it while learning something too. I'm also eating up the great blog posts about the ins and outs of camera lore and hope to one day attain the rank of Macro Maestro, or Landscape Luminary.

To finish, here's my first 'keeper' I took. My daughter had woken up and was deciding if she should keep crying or just go back to sleep.

See you around!
Oh yeah, I should do the obligatory info. I'm 31, British, living in Japan.

First snap

Lakitu, Welcome

"...pressing all the buttons and fiddling with all the dials" is an excellent way to learn your camera (peeking into the manual now and then!). It's very encouraging to find you also recognize the importance of the equipment behind the viewfinder (called "pho-tog-rapher").

Your "keeper" was well-timed, and your model may have to get used to that shiny thing pointing her way more often now. Good luck with that!

I'm twice your age, American, living in confusion. But if I can help in any way, let me know.

Default Saying Hello

Hi, I'm Allison from AL, USA. I'm fairly new to the digital photography scene. It is a relaxing hobby away from my daily teaching job. On the side I am also taking pictures of cars at drag races (which my husband does) and of flowers and other nature pictures. I found this website and it has been the most helpful so far. I look forward to learning more. I have a Nikon D50 with a couple different lenses but always on the looking for something new and interesting.

Hi DPS, i have been following your great site for months now, and i am kinda embarrased to say i only just realised you have a forum, it looks like i have alot of exploring to now do.

Well i am darren a chef living in wales uk but originally from manchester. I have been into phoography for ages but got serious about 2 years ago, i started off with a fuji s9600, then i got hold of a second hand Olympus E500 which i really enjoyed. I am currently using a cannon Eos 40D and absolutley loving it. I dont go anywere without it......lol

I dont really have any one particual subject i like to shoot, but being in rural wales i seem to get alot of local lanscapes. But i like to take shots of anything and everything.

i am quite compitent in using CS3 and that plays a bigh part in my photography but i dont like photos to be over done on PP, Unless there HDR

well that enough about me for now, i will get some pictures up shortly.

Darren

Default new here

just starting here so thought i would say hi.

both my husband and i use pentax equipment. i started in 1978 with the good old manual MX and upgraded when pentax put out their first AF body then into the *istD, K10D (which i still have) and earlier this year to the K20D. the past year has brought almost a total turn over of lenses.

for many years i used my camera to take reference photos for my art work (some older stuff can be seen at http://www.clanins.com/artmaster.html ).

i have not painted for about 2 1/2 years now as i am taking photography to a more serious level and am finding my artistic urges are satisfied this way.

my husband had a photo lab for 10 years which included a portrait studio, custom dark room, i did some work there on the big computer doing retouching, restoring and sometimes rebuilding damaged photographs. he did a lot of product photography also. when many people began with digital, processing and printing their photos at home we closed the lab rather than upgrade all of the equipment. our daughter is a professional photographer and works primarily in the horse industry.

i use www.pbase.com/kclanin/inbox for people to view my photos, please take a look if you'd like.

we have one local photo show hanging right now, the business owner asked us for 4 months and we'll change it half way through. we hung a big show in february (21 pieces).

looking forward to getting to know the site better and meet the people here.

Hey there,

I'm a newbie on the site; I'm not sure how I found DPS but I've been reading the blog for about a month and lurking occasionally in the forums. I went digital from an old Canon Rebel about two years ago - I shoot with a Digital Rebel XT and with any of three lenses, but my favorite is my 28-135 USM IS.

I live and work in suburban Maryland, a stone's throw from Washington DC, but I'm in Ohio at a summer camp right now. I am my camp's photographer, and I also get to practice sports photography on a regular basis at the school where I teach. I ought to shoot more outside those two venues, but I have other competing interests as well, so it can be tough to balance everything!

I don't have a website or a Flickr account (yet), but perhaps that will happen towards the beginning of the fall.

Thanks for reading; I'm looking forward to roaming through the threads and replying when I get a chance!

Welcome to fellow new members. Looks like none of you are as green as me so I'm sure I'll get a lot out of looking at your photos. It's nice to see some fellow teachers too.
Finepixel, my gran used to live in Llandudno and I have so many fond memories of visiting her there as a child. I've already seen a few of your photos and they're really nice.

Question

Hello everyone!

My name is Scott and I am from the Tampa Bay area in Florida. I actually live in Tarpon Springs just Northwest of Tampa along the Gulf.

I am about as green as they come to digital photography and I was searching for a site where I can learn more. I have always loved photography and have owned many cameras in my life, but I have never been much good at it.

I purchased an Olympus E-300 about a year ago and recently purchased the FL50 flash to go along with it. I have been trying to learn how to use it for the past year, but I still am not too good with it as I was at my wits end this past Friday night on the 4th when I went to the fireworks display on the water along the beaches out on a friends boat and my photos were really bad. Only about a dozen of about 80 I took turned out decent.

I decided then to start my quest for additional knowledge, which is how I found this site.

Therefore any knowledge I can pickup here will be greatly appreciated!
