/waves the typical geeky newbie wave...

My name is Amy and I live in eastern South Dakota with my hubby and 2 kiddos.

My father started my interest in photography. He's been taking lovely shots for years. I've always wondered how he took such good pictures. (Mine were usually very bad. After the infamous "goat butt" picture - I couldn't go anywhere but up!) After an expensive trip to a professional photographer for Christmas photos, I decided to try my hand at photography. I've been reading like mad and starting to save up for a Canon Rebel XTi . (<- atleast that's the one I think I want at this point.) My hope for this year - is to have the camera and improve my shots enough to take the family photos myself this year. I also hope to share photography as a hobby with my son. He's been going along with me on shoots as an excuse to get out of the house. I love the time with him, and I'm anxious to see what his first few rolls will turn out like. (taking them in this week.)

my camera- hp photosmart c618 (hand-me-down from dad). ("Need" new camera badly...)

Started reading the blog and found the forums here. I'm really excited about the forum.

Yep... Just retired last month, and am trying to get a second career started... Got a few interesting photos from my time in the Navy, but most of them are film and "off-topic" for the forum... I'm working on scanning them and putting them in my flickr account, especially the night missile launches...

Hi my name is Jarem and I live in the Philippines. Im a Civil Engineer by profession and working in a govt office. Im newbie in photography but beginning to enjoy this as a hobby (barely a month old hobby)

I have my old P&S camera which i used mostly in Auto mode. Got curious and tried other settings and produce some outstanding results (in my standard ). Things gets more interesting when i attended a wedding of my cousin this year and looked at those excellent photos produced by Pros.

Now I have my new semi DSLR Sony DSC-R1 i bought days before christmas, and Im taking pics on landscapes, people and recently macro just to experience the diff setting and conditions my camera can offer.

Im learning more and more and this site perfect for me.

Default San Diego here

Fist of all, thank you Darren for starting this forum.

Hello everyone, I am living in San Diego, California with my wonderful wife. Our two children are grown, educated and married, so no immediate worries and a little more liesure time.

I am an engineer who had a long hiatus from photography. I came back to this hobby 1.5 years ago, and have been using a Sony DSC-H1, a basically point and shoot 6 MP with some bells and whistles. I just took delivery of a Nikon D200 and can't wait to use it. Everything I submit for a while will be from the Sony DSC-H1 while I accumulate lenses and some experience with the D200. I recently joined a local photogrpahy club which is very active, sponsors photo shoots to nearby destinations, has speakers at the monthly meetings, and has an annual photo contest. Good support.

One of the things I I like about this forum is the different ideas that an image produces, and the ideas the comments spark. I am happy to be involved.

My name is Jon MacKinnon, i'm 19 years old, and have been shooting more seriously since May 2006, before that i had a Pentax point and shoot. My father has been taking photos for as long as i can remember on holidays and stuff like that, i guess thats why im interested in it. I study graphic design at the University of Wales, Newport but wish i was doing photography!! I own a Nikon D50 (it was my first camera after my point and shoot) i have the 18-55 kit lens, and the 55-200 kit lens, and also a Sigma f/2.8 18-50mm, and got a Sigma EF-500 DG Super flash for christmas. I generally shoot live music shows, people, and extreme sports. I own a website which i have a link to in my sig & profile. I'm here because I waste too much time on MySpace and thought I could come spend some constructive time here!

Default newbie

oops.. i moved this from a new thread, now that i see this is where it should be.

I was just browsing the web and came accross this site. I was very impressed with some of the topics that I was reading so I knew this was the place for me. What caught my eye the most was the critique(sp) my photo section. Just reading some of the comments I felt give me a better idea of how to approach my own shots and composition.

Anyone going to the Nikon 2 day school in Orlando on 1/20 and 1/21, or is this a waste of money? I'm sure as I continue to search this forum I may answer my own question.

Anyway, don't want this to be a long boring introduction so, happy to be here.

Jason

My name is Veronica. I got into photography trying to take better pictures for my scrapbooks (paper and digital). My favorite subject is my quick moving three year old daughter. My current camera is a Canon S2 IS but I also grab my husband's Fuji FinePix F30 for quick indoor shots (much to his dismay). While I like my S2 IS a lot, I'd really like a dSLR. In the meantime, my goal is to make the best of the camera I do have so that when I do get a dSLR, I'll be ready for it.

Tim, 23, web designer, Australian living in Tokyo.
Bought a Canon 400D a couple months ago to capture my time while living here. Shoot mostly with the 50mm f.18, also own extension tubes and that crusty thing called a lens kit. Did a little bit of photography a couple years back and the other half of my reason to buy the dSLR was to pick up where i left off.

i think sharing = learning so that's why i'm here.

i am matteo moci from Rome, Italy. i'm 25.
i study computer science and i am fascinated by photography, mainly thanks to my father that showed me the picture he took at my age and after, working sometimes with models for fashion shots and other just for the pleasure of doing it.
in my shots i used his gear, that consists in a nikkormat reflex with 3 lenses (24-50-200 mm), a yashicamat with 120mm film and other film cameras that don't work by now.
another camera i used is my brother's olympus 310-z, a crappy digital camera that shoots 3 seconds after you push the button... but that's what i have...

(more than) sometimes i enjoy retouching my shots with photoshop to fix and enhance them.
