Hi all,
I'm Gary, 32, living in Sydney Australia (originally from UK). I've been interested in photography for several years, its an interesting hobby that I'm getting more and more serious about as time passes. I've got a Canon 350D SLR, with EF-S 18-55 (f/3.5-5.6) II and a EF 75-300 (f/4-5.6) III, however just purchased a EF 24-70 (f/2.8) L which I love. My wife has recently given birth to twin girls (our first children) so I'm hoping with some advice from the forum members I will get some good shots of them rather than a lot of the average ones I've taken so far. |

welcome ozbear and congrats on the twins......hopefully with the two you'll even have time to pick up your camera! Others will be better to tell you how to shoot the twins I'm not much into portrait photography or shooting people.
COngrats again and welcome to the boards.

Howdy! I'm Lori from Texas. I live around the Ft. Davis Mountains (waaaay out in the boonies
. My husband is a cowboy so many pictures I take are of the crew working, kids horseback, & landscapes. I'm 31, married for 15yrs with 3 boys. They are 14yr, 11yr, and 14mths old! I've always had a passion for photography. I have always used a plain ol' Sony Cybershot that I love but just recently purchased a Nikon D70s. It came with a Nikon DX lens 18-70 and a Quantaray 70-300 lens. I also got tons of accessories. I'm excited and ready to learn. Oh, I also have 3 blogs that I run daily. A Cowboy's Wife, Blogging with Cents, and My Wooden Spoon. Maybe I'll be adding a 4th one that relates to photography

Hi all,
My names Matthew and I'm a 29 year old tree surgeon from South Wales, UK. I'm keen to get into photography and I'm interested in landscape, close-up, B&W and still life - so a mixed bag really. I use a Canon Powershot S5 IS compact digital camera. I did try to get the wife to understand that I need (want!) a D-SLR and had my eyes on an entry level camera such as Canon EOS 400D or Nikon 40D, but she wasn't having any of it, dagnabbit. Looks like I'll just have to start saving up the dosh! Anyway, I'm here mainly to get tips, advice, critique and feedback in order to improve my skills and techniques - which are, at the moment, very basic and limited. This site looks like agreat place to start. Thanks for your time and may the genies of a thousand lamps grant your every wish!

CowboytfHi Lori! Are you enjoying the Nikon? Hope we get to see your shots of Texas soon
!treesurfer 78 Welcome to DPS Matthew! You've got a great camera and you'll learn a lot here. You really don't need a dslr to take great pictures. But still, good luck with the saving .

Hello!
My name is Amanda and I'm from Wisconsin. I am 25 years old and recently married. I also recently went back to school and took a few film classes. These films classes required us to take pictures and videos for numerous projects. While competing these projects I realized I need to take my photography work more seriously as I was receiving the highest grades in the classes on most projects. I was also having way too much fun doing my homework and spending hours a day taking pictures and playing around with them. I have always had a passion for photography and can remember back in kindergarten staring at National Geographic magazines dreaming of taking pictures like the ones in that magazine. I played around with my dad's old Canon 35mm while growing up, but had never played with anything else except for my growing collection of point and shoot digi cams....I am rather impulsive and after a few weeks of online researching went out and bought a Nikon D40x. (I bought it on November 15th so just a few weeks ago!!) A friend of mine borrowed me his D80 and I had a pleasant experience with it so I am excited about the D40x to learn with.I have started a blog where I have posted some pictures I have taken with my new toy and now I have people asking me to shoot their weddings and take family portraits, etc! Considering I have only been shooting with a DSLR for about a month, I am extremely nervous about this all! I am starting to learn about aperture it's finally starting to click...hehe (no pun intended)I am enrolled in a two-year digital photography program at my local technical college and am starting that in January. I hope to use this forum as a learning tool and to learn all there is to know about photography. I am most interested in learning about different lenses and flashes so I can hopefully shoot these two weddings next May! I wanted to point out that before joining this forum I was looking around for a little while and everyone here is so nice! That is such a relief since with a few other photography forums/websites, a lot of the participants were rude and unpleasant, especially to beginning photographers. So thanks everyone and I'll see you around! Hi! My name is Laura and I've been an amature shutterbug most of my life. Back then it was all about just getting the picture, but in the past four years it has really become a hobby that I'd like to develop into something that I may be able to use for income in the future. Kind of my retirement career, lol! I entered into the digital world about three and a half years ago when I got my Kodak Easyshare. Then a year ago I purchased my Olympus E500 DSLR and I'm loving it! When lighting is a challenge, if I can't take my Oly, or...if I'm just plain lazy
I use my Kodak. My photos vary from shots of family and friends to landscapes and a lot of country music artist's concerts. I plan to take take some classes so I can the most out of my equipment and learn what equipment I may need to obtain to better my skills. I'm excited to have found this site and look forward to learning and sharing with my peers.
