The worse thing that happened...my 1.5 year old at the time, threw the camera out the Window (it was the whole throw down and pick up game they love to play) And it still worked....It was one of the first affordable canon digital cameras - which BTW was more expensive than the Xti I have now...And it was only 3 megapixels. But then I dropped it...and that was all she wrote.

Bad things are always happening to my cameras. :S I'll just share my first experience because its probably the worst one. My first good camera that I owned was a Canon 4mp. It use to be my brothers, but he gave it to me after he got a DSLR. A few months later we went fishing with our dad and (of course) I took my new camera along. After we hiked down to the mouth of the creek and I found my fishing spot, I laid my camera down in the grass behind me. I wasn't catching much fish, so I decided to walk up the creek a little more. The tide was coming in fast and I was so busy fishing that I totally forgot about my camera. Later my brother found it completely underwater.
I never got to use that camera again. It died that day and it was all my fault! Now years later, I own a DSLR. My dad and brother are always watching out for it to make sure I don't drown it too.

My first digital camera (a Casio QV-5000SX with a whopping 1.2MP resolution!) got dropped on concrete at a car show. Destroyed the battery cover latch. That sinking feeling when I looked down and saw batteries lying around the camera...not good. Thought I'd ruined it right then.

I was able to duct tape it shut until I returned home, then drilled a hole in the camera casing and ran a twist-tie through it to hold the battery cover closed.

Gave it to my mother 6 months later when I bought the C4000Z I have now, she used it for several more years before upgrading to a newer camera, and as far as I know it still works perfectly today provided you replace the twist tie every few battery swaps!

My old Sony DSC-S50....

Had just finished taking this photo...

And sat the cam om my bumper to do something and then hopped in the Jeep to keep moving up the trail...we wera bout 3/4 the way to the lake at the top...well I hear the CB go off and my buddy saying, "Yo Dizz your camera just went flying over the side of the mountain"...stop, look over the edge, see nothing but air and a long way down...figure the cam is dead and gone.

Well hours later as we are heading back down the trail we get right near the bottom of the mountain and again I hear the CB go off, "Hey Dizz...ain;t that your camera laying over there in the rocks?" SO we stop and sure enough there is my camera...big giant dent in the top of it, but picked it up, turned it off and back on and it worked just fine. In fact...it is still working to this day.

Dropped off dang near the top of a mountain bouncing along rocks and what not all the way down...kept right on working.

Crazy!!

I went to a wedding in cyprus with my first camera i bought myself, i was a fuji f450, great little camera i loved it.

After the wedding i went out with friends with my trusty camera, go soooo drunk and fell over on the way back to teh villa, crawled up the gravel path and into bed.

When i got up the following morning, my pockets had collected the gravel as i was coming up the villa driveway, lens cap must have forced itself open and my pride and joy was scratched to death, although the lens cleaned up pretty well.

I got the grit out of the cap so that it opened and closed and all was well with the world, i got home, left the camera in the boot of the car after having my pics developed and it was stolen

Not a great tale but i didnt get another F450, wish i could though!

I have dropped mine a few times but it seems ok. I have to be more careful.

Luckily, I haven't had anything too bad happen to my DSLR equipment. I've dropped my speedlight a few times, and lost the eyecup for the XTi. However, I've dropped the S50 maybe 10-20 times. Also, if you have the S50, you know it turns on by moving a cover in front of the lens. Well, that cover is broken, so it becomes difficult to turn it on and off. Anyways, the S50 is an old camera...

I've been considering putting UV filters on the front of my lenses. Would a cheap $10 work? Or do you need an expensive one for good protection (can't spend so much! The 75-300 is worth about $200, anyways...)

I picked up a 70-300 Is lens on a Saturday morning and took it with me to Fenway park that evening.

As soon as I arrived I was changing my lenses when my lovely wife asked me to hold something for her ( forget what, but it must have been important). Well I didnt want to put the lens on the ground so I stuck it in my pocket, when I stood up the lens fell out of my pocket and rolled about 10 feet.

Broken front glass, chipped housing, broken autofocus.

Thank God for Ritz Camera extended warranty!

Default Camera fell off Tripod

Just bought a new Tripod and was busy testing it out. I had my camera (Canon 350 D) and Sigma 18-200mm OS lens fitted on the camera. Which I did not know was that the clip for the camera on the tripod was a poor quality. I lifted my camera in a vertical position and it fell 1,5m to the ground with lens and all. Luckily the lens did not break, and the camera was ok. Although the plastic housing at the back was slightly moved.

Luckily my camera is still working, but no I am struggling with dust on the sensor and prism (and this I found out the day before I had to do a wedding)...

MY nerves...
