I have to agree with Lori, that is one of the most beautiful eagle shots I have ever seen. I would say it was definitely worth all the effort and expense.

Anyway there I was in November, in freezing temperatures & a howling gale, digging a hole in the sand so I could lay 'flat' to take a shot like this one:
I love your picture, but I can't stop laughing because of the mental image I have of you with your baby belly in a hole in the sand, OMG...........hehehehehehheheheheheh.....I'm sorry please take not offece to my giggles.

I went to bed at 11:30pm and got up at 3am (after the moon set) - not a lot of sleep. And for all that I managed to catch exactly 0 shots with meteors in them. They were there while I had the shutter open, but they just didn't show - I guess I should have raised my ISO Next time I tell you next time
Same sorta deal for me, except my camera's battery died about 25 minutes into the night

Here's one shot I did get, though.

In March 2007, I woke up from a nap I took to prepare for a late night, got dressed in my warmest clothing, drove about 30 min north, and set up my tripod in -25 degree F temperature to capture the northern lights. It was the first time I had ever seen them, and it was a thrilling event for me. My DSLR had been purchased that January, so I was still new to the camera and had a lot to learn. For example: a smaller f-stop, thicker socks, and an extra battery due to the temperature. Oh, and that blowing on the lens to get dust off when it's cold results in frost.....

Thank you Lori, and thank you too Leona! It was definitely one of the most memorable days of my life. It was so awesome walking down the river and seeing the eagles in the trees. Nature at its finest.

I hope to get some action shots this winter.

This is pretty awesome. I would love the opportunity to shoot the northern lights! Hopefully in a little warmer weather though. :-)

Great capture!! Especially for not being familiar with everything.

There was a really big ice storm in February 2007 in Columbus. My cameras and tripod were all developing a thin layer of ice, it was after midnight and I couldn't feel my fingers. Pictures turned out pretty well though.

Not so much going to great lengths, but funny stories. I once stopped a football game to get yelled at by a ref who suddenly decided I was too close to the field (I wasn't), got run over by a basketball ref who was jogging backwards and got whacked in the 80-200 by a cheerleader (probably hurt her more than me).

What a beautiful photo. I love all the activity of the lights confined to one small patch with the rest of the photo in darkness. I have always wanted to see the Northern Lights. Where was this taken? (Your other photos are beautiful--I have saved several as Favs)

Wow, thanks! It was taken just outside of Palmer, Alaska (less than an hour outside of Anchorage). AK is a beautiful place....definitely a photographers paradise.
