It makes it easy at the bank too, since you don't have to setup a business account to deposit checks.

Well, I suggest setting up a separate account for you business. If your bank charges you extra for a business account then set it up as a personal account. But definitely get an account for your business.

Oh, I agree. I was just meaning you can avoid paying the premium that most banks charge for business accounts by setting it up as a personal account.

Can you avoid having a buisness id, buisness account, if you use your name anywhere in the buisness name?

For example could I call my buinsess "Fantastic Photos by John Doe"?
Or would my name have to be "John Doe Photography"?

It may vary from state to state. I'm in Oregon, for example, and since we don't have sales tax I don't need to get a tax id #. My business is Images by Jeff Kennedy.

It varies from state to state. I asked a lawyer this question once, and he said that if you operate as any alias, even if the alias includes your name, then you need to register the name with the state. So, even John Doe Photography would have to be registered in order to be legal.

Something else, to consider, is that some banks require a business license to open a business account, and won't accept checks written to a business on a personal account. For example, if you have an account for John Doe, and your client writes a check to John Doe Photography, the bank may not take the check. This can make for awkward situations when you have to go back to your client and ask for a check without the rest of the business name in it.

Default Business Name

I've always been creative with names. My Vinyl Lettering and Graphics business is "Streetwize Graphics". Streetwize and my real name are well known in this area.

Having so many years in graphic design and photoshop experience I wanted to keep the name diversified. Imaging can be used for anything of this type. Photography, Video, editing... Many types of services.

My photography is creative in angles. Most photos are elevated by either a telescoping mast, Remote control helicopter or airplane.

Then I need a word to use for marketing purposes. A .com is the most well known website extention. I went to networksolutions.com and did some searching for names available. If the searched names are taken, other names are offered as alternatives which I used to further change the name for an appropriate website. This took about 4-6 weeks.

"Envision a birds eye glimpse of your property just above the treetops. Unique angles of photography with rich color and sharp detail you can't get from full-scale aircraft."

The name?
Envision Creative Imaging

For my customers that can't remember the new name I have also registered my real name as a backup (troyraymond.com) . I still have to get that name pointed to my main website.

Troy
