My fiance and I share our passion for photography, like we share our passion for cycling.

For us, it is not a question of "Can I have time to shoot", but "How would you frame this shot?" or something like that.

good post.
lucky for me my husband is just as wild about photography as i am.
but when we vacation we do pick days to leave the camera in the hotel, and days to carry it.

The perks of being single!

That, and the last time I left my camera behind on purpose (to enjoy the walk), all I could do was think, "wow I'm missing this, and this, and this,... Why did I leave my camera at home..?"

BUT

While I was touring Spain a few weeks ago, our tour guide said something very interesting that pertains to this subject. He said (paraphrasing of course) that when people are touring through places with a camera, they just assume that since they have a picture of it, they will remember the place, and do not take the time to appreciate everything else. He suggested to everyone with our group to go one day without a camera, and just admire the places we visited. Notice the different smells, and what was going on around us. If you do this, you will remember the place much more vividly, then had you just snapped of a picture and kept going. They do say the sense of smell triggers memories better then anything else.

Of course, I couldn't have been bothered by that whole thing because my only reason for visiting the country was to photograph it, but I will certainly take it into consideration in the future.

That sounds like Velvia! I do all that and still snap a pic. A memory of it all.... to view and relive, and the smells come back as well.

I have my camera with me most of the time but it doesn't come out of the bag all the time. No spouse, not even a significant other (sad-face), but I still keep the cam under wraps when socializing as I find it puts friends off that aren't into it as I am. It's just a respect of their personal space and privacy I suppose. Unless of course they ask.

My wife is not a photographer, but does have a good eye for composition, and is constantly pointing me in the right direction for a good picture.
(usually AWAY from her, seeing as she hates having her picture taken!)

Now as for being a computer widow some days, that is a totally different story!
