No adverse IQ effects from lens hoods indeed.....there's quite likely to be positive IQ effects instead

Of course whatever you do, there'll always be some freak possibility of something happening that you didn't have covered. That's what insurance (and maybe a backup lens and body, if you depend on it for your livelihood) is for I suppose.

Default What about Haze

filter's? Or a clear looking filter with the word Haze in it's description. Being brand spanking new to DSLR's and this site, I've been putting together an Rebel XTi 400D outfit and I've decided to go with the school of thought to protect my lenses by having a (protective) filter on each lense. I got one in a bag/kit and turned around and bought another...it says 58mm UV Haze. Did I mess-up?

I never/rarely use filters and don't rely on them to protect my lenses. On occasion I may use a neutral density or polarizing filter. What I do have on all my lenses are lens hoods. They protect my lenses just fine and provide valuable shade for my lenses.
