What’s Your Preference?

I've been using meebo.com for quite a while. For those who doesn't know, meebo combine all of your IM into one web version (yahoo, msn, aim, etc)
They just come up with a new version that has a chat room function so people from different IM account can chat together.
They also have the ability to post medias (haven't checked on this thoroughly yet).
Any interest on making Digital Photography School chat room? Or maybe anyone else has a better chat room idea? (irc, etc).

I think it would be fun to have a chat room for this forum.
What do you think moderators?

deviantArt.com has chat rooms filled with features (i think it's possible to post media files there as well as picture thumbnails). anyone has got their deviantArt account? .) mine's enc-on-accela

ah...I never play around deviantart before. Never knew they had that kind of feature.
I don't have a deviantart account and if it is going to be the forum official chat room, then we will have to create a new account, most likely one of the admin have to do it.
With meebo's, anyone can create one, but i guess deviant art is also quite appropriate.

Cmon moderators....no comment on this?

How about setting up one as an experiment and seeing how many people join you. If that flies, then it might be worth integrating more tightly with the rest of the site.

I would, but let say it turns out quite nicely and the admins want an official one? Do we need to move everyone to the new chat rooms?
And we still dont know whether meebo's is the best choice. I'll wait for more support from the members and what the admins has to say

You can paste the URL of your pic to the chat room. I don't know whether you need to create an account with meebo first or not.

alas, DeviantART is quite blocked from work here..
Personally, I prefer to have semi-official setups, so long as they conform to the traditional rules that we have setup here and on Flickr if it's going to be anything in the DPS name.

Meebo would be fine as it can be accessed pretty much anywhere vs a specific chat program room (AIM, MSN, etc..) or IRC.
Granted just because I'm a mod doesn't give me say on what people do outside this forum or any say on the official DPS stance on anything.

quite an odd choice to block deviantart...
Anyway, I set up a room in meebo. I put the link in the previous post together with the password.
Cmon people, join up.

PS: I took the dps logo from the blog webpage for the chat room logo. Is this okay?

well then, i think i prefer old school irc .) hence we can put up a bot attached to the server via xml-rpc so we can get instant news from the site (new forum threads, blog entries, etc.)

that would be really fun \o/
