That's a great shot!

Great idea laepelba - If we were in DC this year that would have been a wonderful place to shoot from - especially, since I am not too far from there..I used to live closer but we moved to Burke...

This is my first year trying to photograph fireworks. I ended up way too close to where they were going off So all my shots were close ups. Oh well, better luck next year.

Default fireworks - first tries

TammyB74 -
I had the same experience this 4th -- I expected to be quite further up river from the fireworks and instead I was nearly on top of the barge. This made it difficult to get the cityscape background I wanted - or the elevation. I was able to get a few shots before the smoke got too thick. This goes under the heading "what I learned for next year"!

I really appreciate all the posts on this site about how to set up to shoot fireworks.

4th in Boston

18mm, f/3.5, 2+ seconds, iso 100.
good luck nex year!

Default Backyard Fireworks

Nice shots Quo Fan and laepelba! My location scouting wasn't so hot this year for the big Philadelphia show, so my best was a backyard shot:

1/10 of a second since I was hand-holding; though it looks like going a bit longer worked well for people.
