I'm a downer for the most part, but I believe I've switched once or twice.

Thanks for all the responses. Interesting that there are as amny downers as I find it very uncomfortable to hold the camera that way round.

And for the few that commented about my holding it with one hand, that was just for illustration to make it clearer what i was talking about. If shooting for real I would of course use my other hand to steady the camera otherwise my shots would all come out as blurry as these two!

interesting........my daughter used my camera the other day and when i went to upload the pics realized that her and i do the opposite when shooting vertical.....i'm down she's up....so now i know. must be hard for lefthanded people....

I'm typically an upper but I find that I put my hand in front of the flash if I do that so I'm trying to learn to shot a downer. I use a hand strap and am thinking seriously about getting a battery grip.

Is one way better than the other? or it it just a matter of preference?

i recently acquired a batt grip and am happy with it for just this purpose....makes vertical shots easier i think.

i think its a matter of preference as far as i can tell.
