I only have a lens hood for my tamron. I might try to make one of those printable ones for my Canon lenses if I need to.

When I was using zooms I always used the hoods, mostly because keeping them backwards made it impossible to zoom. With primes it's not as much of an issue, although if it's a bright, clear day I'll break out the screw-on rubber hood for the 50 and 24.

I like Elmo's response. I keep my hoods on whenever shooting. FYI, when I received a Sigma 70 - 300 mm, it came with a 58mm hood. Also my Canon 24 - 105 came with a 77mm hood. I'm not an expert, but I guess that is why I use whatever I have at hand to get a better shot. ----Hey! You never know when the opportunity of a lifetime will come, and it may be in the direction of the sun.

I haven't experimented yet. I printed the cut-out lens hood for my ef 50mm f=1.8 prime. Now the lens does have AF so, do I, or is it common to mount it on the edge of the barrel (this is the slip over type) and trust that I'm covered? Seems it would come up short on coverage.
