Default How do you get your shots?

I often wonder about peoples photographing patterns.

I tend to work alot so only shoot at weekends and late evening jut before my daughter goes to bed. This disappoints me really as im really enjoying something that is becoming a passion.

When do you get your shots?

Windrider got one whilst walking her dog etc.

You never know i might get an idea to take my camera somewhere i normally wouldnt from this thread!

I have the same problem. I work during the day and have quite a long commute, so I don't have much time for my hobby. Most of my pictures are taken on vacation. lately though I take my camera when I take my dog to the park. Sometimes you get some interesting shots that way.

I guess my best advice would be to take your camera everywhere and view everything as a photographic opportunity. Some of the most mundane things can become great shots if you think creatively. I know a lot of people that take their camera to work and shoot on their lunch hour.

I carry my point & shoot all the time and will take shots anywhere. On the weekends I plan to go out to take shots and I take my Nikon D80. I think about where I might get interesting shots, garden, horse races, family, etc. I have come out of the movies and have gotten some terrific shots of the clouds on buildings. You just have to have your eyes open and camera with you at all times.

I guess one of my problems is that i dont have creation ready for burting out, i just love taking photos and freezing the scene as is.

I think im going to start partaking in the assignments to give me a sense of direction.

I used to carry my P&S but forget now i keep it in my bag!

I might just get it insured and keep it in the boot of th car. Its a seperate comparment thats deadlocked anyway. Im in an underground carpark anyway so it wont get too hot.

Very few people are creative naturally. Most of us have to work at it constantly. Some ideas you can try:
  • Our assignments (which you already are doing)
  • Checkout images on flickr or other photography sites
  • Take one object and see how many ways you can shoot it
Remember, you may take a hundred shots and only come up with 1 or 2 good ones. When you see a great shot someone took realize there may be quite a few rejects behind it and you don't see!

Still keeps me interested and helps me learn manual settings!

Thanks for the advice!

Amusingly i have a picture for the natural framing assignment providing its within time but i am defo going to get another by the weekend!

dannyrich,

The third Saralonde idea is fun and challenging. Take this piece of litter, for instance:

Fragment2

Just a few minutes in the Sun, turning the glass:

GlassCollage2
