Just before the forum got upgraded, the moderators started experimenting with handing out infractions to people who break the rules of the site (eg. posting pictures more than 800px on the longest side, starting more than one critique thread a day, etc). People make mistakes, especially if they are new or haven't been on the site for a while and the moderators can generally smooth things over. However, each bit of fixing takes time and also sets a bad example until someone is able to deal with it so we wanted to make use of the infractions mechanism to help us pick out people who flaunt the rules rather than just make a slip and then learn their lesson.
Getting an infraction doesn't mean you are a bad person and it will disappear automatically after a few days. However, please play attention to why it was handed out. The rules are in place to keep the place reasonably tidy. For example, the posting limitations prevent one person flooding Share Your Shots and pushing other people's work out of the way so quickly it gets ignored. If you do manage to pick up multiple infractions, it suggests you might be happier on another photography forum with different rules and you may find yourself encouraged to look with a temporary or permanent ban! ![]() Wulf ps. Thanks to everyone who does take time to check the sticky threads in various forums, to browse the FAQs and to keep things rolling without moderator intervention - you are in the vast majority

I quite like "slap" haa... I've been looking into changing the title, seems, as Wulf says, that the forum software quite likes "infraction" maybe it's a change of thinking that we'll need to adopt, rather than changing the wording... I shall continue to look

Unfortunately vBulletin doesn't seem to have a free version for me to rip apart looking, so I can't tell you exactly what to change. My hunch is that it's got a english strings file that contains the English phrases that it uses commonly, and somewhere in there you can change "Infraction" to "Loving Feather Duster Application".

I think the word "infraction" is perfect, and lets people know just what it is and what this forum is (or can be) like.
I found this when I put Nikon D60 in google, because I'm looking into buying one (after about a year of saving up) and found several sites that said one could WIN this camera, by posting on the forum. The more you post the more you're entered and the better your chances are. I could find no YEAR on the info about this, and nothing on the site (last I knew no answers to the quesion) so maybe it's not even current. I've found photography forums and groups before, but it turned out they were more interested in who had the most money, to buy the best and newest equipment, like who has the most megapixals, etc. I thought this one might be different, it doesn't seem like it on first look. But, the few post (and pictures) I tried were, last time I looked totally ignored. I know, maybe it could be because I'm not an interesting person, and don't have shots of exotic places, or don't say I have a new REBEL with all sorts of lenses and going on a cruise to take pictures, or something. Maybe writing this will be seen as in INFRACTION? You know, not keeping the forum "just so" and neat and tidy, and such. If it is, will I get an email letting me know, in case I miss it? If I am unsubbed and banned for speaking up, saying what I think, will I be notified of this? Does anyone KNOW of a forum where people can speak up honestly and can share, participate and not be treat like they're invisible, if they don't have a lot of money and expensive cameras, lenses, etc? I probably wouldn't fit in here anyway. I don't do good with having to remember rules (even ones I'm not always aware of) and playing the game and being "just so" (what someone else has decided I should/shouldn't be) So, maybe in the long run it's good I wasn't welcomed (not in ONE thread, that I saw, even the INTRODUCTION ones, where others were greeted in a friendly way). It wouldn't have taken long before I said something- spoke up and pointed out something that maybe others thought but nobody wanted to risk SAYING. And got infractions, warnings, and probably banned. And, the worst part about this is, usually whene someone on a forum is banned, the others on it don't even know about it. They just keep on not knowing all this moderation, rules, warnings, and banning is going on. And, I've been on forums without all the rules and control, that seem to work very well, anyway... So, thanks for letting people know up front what this one is like. |

It's a busy site - if you post a picture or two and they get passed over, try commenting on some other people's posts. A lot of people will take time to look at new posts by someone they "know" via other discussions - so go and interact with them before giving up on this place.

My apologies to the rest. |
