i have the crumpler 6 million dollar home, shoulder bag that is bulky and heavy (and looks a bit like a diaper bag LOL) with all my gear but very roomy......and i also have a fashion one called vituri messenger by www.allmymemories.com and i love it for everyday toting (and it doesn't scream camera - steal me!) , has a mesh pocket for my zoom lens, room for credit card and cell phne etc. etc.

Normally I use an over the shoulder for my Kodack, but for my smaller canon that I keep on me 95% on the time I keep it in a little make up bag in my purse (it is a hard case and i'm very carefull not to bump into anything). You never know when you can get a good shot, unfortunately teachers don't allow you to take pictures in class something about the flash being too distracting (thought waht they don't know hasn't hurt them yet). lol

I've got a Tamrac Velocity 6. Since I only have a D40 and one lens, it's good for me, for now, but one more lens and a speedlight and it'll be full. As my kit expands I'll definitely need to move up to a bigger bag, probably a backpack, but I'll keep the Velocity around for when I want to travel light.

I have an over the shoulder camera bag but I'd prefer to get a backpack. When you have a lot of gear (I don't but I'd like too
) a backpack is the way to go.

I use a Tam Tek (which likely no one has ever heard of). It is one stout bag leftover from my videotography days in the early 90's. It takes my camera with attached lens plus three other lens all in their own separate lens case. It has many pockets for many tools and I have added extra padding to keep my gear safe. I have a sturdy black lunch tote ($6) with plastic insert that, oddly enough, looks like a camera bag. I keep extra stuff in there, lens hoods, bean bags. Lastly, I have a nice ($5) leather fanny pack that holds my medium size bean bag, extra battery, extra cards, etc. When I am just on on foot, I strap that on, drop an extra lens in its cushy case in my cargo pants pocket and take off. When I take off in my prius, all bags and my tripod are on board.
Bottom Line: had a bag that does the job, added a few auxillary bags for real cheap. I am set for low cost.
