I consider it "art", except most "snapshots". I think even architectural photography is "art". The first thing that makes photography art is that you need the ability to "see a picture" there to be taken in the first place.

Art, to me is about the internal process that goes on in the mind and heart of the photographer. (or writer, painter, musician, ect.) As one of my early art teachers was fond of saying "the artist is one who sees things differently". So I guess that all things CAN be art.

A 'slice of time' presented to delight, intrigue, shock, inform, remind, stimiulate, highlight.................photography can be art.

I'm in the some is and some isn't art camp. It depends on the creator's intention and the viewer's appreciation. One person's art is another person's junk and vice versa.

If people can consider a canvas that someone just splashed paint all over art; then of course photography is art. And so is this paper clip man I just made.

LOL! Take a shot of the paper clip man and tone map it...then its without a doubt art....
By the first definition then most snaps are going to be art too cause it will evoke some sort of emotion or feeling regardless of the subject.....
We are constantly feeling different emotions so a snap shot of a empty garbage can can be as much art as a beautifully lit sunset with waves crashing in....
either way I will feel something looking at each. Whether its disgust or emptiness or peaceful tranquil feeling.

Of course its art. You see, you capture, you show. I would buy that photography with a cell phone camera is much better art then most "art" art out there in the real world.

Eye of the beholder and such.

I was going to vote ' Depends ' Then I saw this

Art, just like beauty - is in the eye of the beholder...

Some of it, medical photos, autopsy photos, crime scene photos, are merely documentation. Other photography is more than that. Sometimes its neither. Some is in between, and in some cases, people can turn documentation into more than just that.
