Default OK, Why I'm Depressed

Besides the news of Whitney Houston.

I work with a woman who just had a grandchild. She came to work the other day with some pictures on her phone. Her daughter found a local photographer for the shots. Here is the ad from the photographers FB page.

"Booking Saturday Appts..... $19.99 UNLIMITED images on cd with copyrights.." This is a special price, her normal price is all of $40.

What unlimited means, I don't know. The CD wasn't available for about a week so she is not shooting direct to CD, there must be some PP. I know nothing about her gear. She has set up a studio in her garage, but............
She has just rented studio space. HOW?

Sugar Daddy??????

That $19.99 is for everything, the shoot, the PP and the CD.

How long has she been doing this? It could be a young, new photographer that I am sure does not have a loyal customer base.

She could just be trying to get her name out there and start a reputation for herself.

Pro photographers should email her and let her know what she is doing to the industry. It's outrageous!

Why?? Its a free market.
She will soon be starving or will just give up because the equation is so insane that even dim people will eventually work it out.

Yes of course it's a free market. My response was really tongue-in-cheek because no such thing would happen anyway as people are too apethetic. But people like her in any field make it tough for real pros to make a living. Free country and all that, but maybe some people should be encouraged to give their actions a little thought for the sake of all.

Personally though, I can't help but feel her ad is a lead in to some sort of up-sell.

Bruce I agree with you ..somewhat.
If the expert pro ..been doing the business for years charge X amount of dollars for a sitting how does a new inexperienced photographer make a living when they first start out? Charge a lot less ...

I am betting this lady doesn't have a client base or established business yet and she is wanting to create both for herself.

Really, how many threads about this type of topic do we need?

This is all part of why I'd never take money for any pictures of people I may do in the future, because I'd just be starting out and yes, I would be "cheap" because of my skill level and the gear I have now or in the future. But if I'd be made fun of for it... well, like I said, it's part of why I don't bother.
