Why are we discussing Amy Winehouse on a thread about Whitney Houston? The two were chalk and cheese.

It's sad Whitney's gone.. She was a talented singer.

My band dedicated a song to Whitney tonight. It was a song about zombies. I hope Kevin Costner's around to save me when that lady comes back from the dead.

This........... x1,0000000000000.

Although, I have to say I had a huge crush on Whitney in my teens.

Because they both died because of addiction, yet Amy was treated like a piece of garbage. It was even worse post mortem.
Two sides of the same coin.

True but I think Jon was getting at the singing ability of both. Whitney had a huge vocal range and was an extremely talented singer. She chose to go the pop route but she had an amazing gospel voice and also opera. Amy Winehouse, sad that she also died, was a pop singer. She could sing, yes, but not anywhere near the vocal range of Whitney.

I think he was comparing their singing talent rather then their personal struggles and death.

Something else that is running through my head is that this might not be drug related. Yes, she has battled addiction for many years and it could be related but I am wondering if she slipped and fell in the tub?

They found her in the tub and she was getting ready to go to a pre grammy party of her long time mentor. Maybe she was "buzzing" just enough to slip and fall or she could have been sober and slipped and hit her head. I have been known to take a dive or two in the tub and I don't drink

Just watched the news, really liked what Barbara Streisand said: "It's sad that her gift couldn't bring her the joy it brought all of us."

Those who don't understand how addiction works should thank God, thank heavens, thank their lucky stars, or thank the hell out of whatever they prefer to thank and call it a day. Those who do understand have just a touch more heartache.

Ad Astra, Whitney.

Amy and Whitney had two different styles of music. Whitney was a pure vocalist, but Amy had a unique, old-school, bluesy, soulful style that was great. Why are we comparing the two? Because some clown brought it up in an earlier post. I appreciated both and will miss both. I'm grateful that I have both artist on my iPod. They were both rare and talented artists.

It's an expression of shock/disbelief :P

You know, all these Whitney jokes keep popping up on the Internet... It's not right, but it's ok.

I wasn't, I was talking about their personalities. I don't believe Amy would ever have managed to clean her life up.. She enjoyed the lifestyle too much, her death was inevitable. Whitney was trying, addiction is a real struggle for anyone, and I find it a real shame she eventually succmbed to her personal battle with addiction, if that's what happened.. So far it looks like she drowned in the bath after falling asleep from exhastion..

Not really the same thing at all. Or am I supposed to just lump all drug addicted people in one crate and say "There you go.." How many of you smoke? How many drink? How many are addicted to other drugs? Personally I've beaten my addiction to Nicotine and Alcohol.. So if I die now from liver disease, 4 years on from the last drink I had, despite struggling every day with the desire to join my friends for a beer, am I still as bad as Amy Whinehouse?

I'm sad for this loss, she was an inspiration and a talanted artist struggling with a very personal habit that I'll bet she regretted every single time she succumbed, rather than an advert for the drug fuelled lifestyle that the Amy Whinehouse lived. They both had addictions, sure, but the way they presented to the public was so completely different.. Like I said.. Chalk and cheese..

What I want to know is what is the line of demarcation that would make one non-photographer celebrity's death worthy of running a DPS post and another not so much?
When the celebrity death trio is completed, will the other two even get mentions?
