I use different social websites like Google+, Facebook and Flickr to store my images and there is a little bit of expsoure and sometimes feedback doing that.
It seems that one Photo Site that serious photographers seem to be also using, is 500px.com. Because it is a Canadian company (as I am) - I remember checking it out some time ago - and found out a couple of days ago that I must have signed up at that time as well (even though I didn't post anything). So I found the website again 2 days ago when looking through old lists of Bookmarks on my browser. When I opened up the 500px website, I found the display of large thumbnail images to be beautiful looking. And unlike some of the other photo sharing sites - the enlarged images look wonderful as well. I started right away with uploading a few of my recent shots from Niagara Falls that I thought might stand up to the excellent quality standards that other images possess. What I was amazed at - was that within only minutes of uploading - I got feedback with a comment and a rating - - -and so I uploaded a few others. With a day I had a fair bit of activity - with quite a few comments, likes, and images chosen as favorites by ones who found me. The scoring or ranking system, is a very interesting algorithm that at first made no sense - but I am starting to see the logic in it. When you hover over a thumbnail image, the score becomes visible in the bottom right corner. That experience, is something that has not happened on any of the other Photo Sites. I am curious what others think of 500px and if anyone here has used the site to maintain some of their best images? If you don't know what 500px is about or what the experience is - you can see what I have done here - 500px / Robert Watcher . Besides the Photos tab, there is also Friends, Activity, Favorites tabs. -------

500Px has been discussed several times on this forum. And if I remember right, there was one that was pretty long running.

I love 500px! I have some images there myself, but mostly enjoy seeing all the other beautiful shots that are residing there! It keeps me motivated and makes me try harder!
![]() Here's a perfect example! The Frozen Man---now this is just a cool piece of work that comes up when you click on Popular at 500px. Last edited by mshockley; 02-12-2012 at 01:13 AM. |
