Default In Over My Head

Out of despair and frustration, I sent in five photos to a photo contest at a museum.

Much to my surprise, delight, dismay...they CHOSE three of them to include in the exhibit.

Now I am at a loss as to what to do. They want me to bring the photos framed and ready to hang in two weeks.

Where do I get the prints made? I am assuming the local Walmart printing kiosk is out...but where do I go? there are dozens of places online, should I look local?

this is new stuff to me, but I dont' want to look completely out of place...I'd like to 'fit in'..

Ask them for their frame specifications. Museums have guideline you must adhere to. You can even ask them to recommend a few places to have it done. Quite common.

If you can read it. Its black text on a dark gray background. And this is a famous photographer...he should know better than to have bad blog design.

Hmmm.........it's black on white for me, although it does flash black on grey as the page opens.

Small square photos in MASSIVE mounts seem to be the rage over here at the moment :P
The only thing I'd say, is it can be quite expensive. I had a photo custom framed (it was HUGE but maybe the size of a 24" TV) ... cost me £55 ($85), which I thought was quite steep.

A few other things to consider and some thoughts:
* as mentioned by cyber3d above, find out what the museum requirements are, if any
* did you shoot the shots at your camera's highest JPEG resolution settings, or in RAW? This will be a factor as to how large a print you can comfortably go with
* if you shot the images with a DSLR, most likely the image aspect ratio is 2x3. So, any enlargements that follow that aspect ratio (as in 4x6, 8x12, 16x24, etc) can be printed without any loss of image data. Understand, if you crop to aspect ratios that are not 2x3, such as 8x10 or 11x14, you will lose some part of the image on it's long dimension
* if you are a member, Costco can print quite nice enlargements that are very cost effective. For example: $2.99 for an 11x14
* many department stores sell simple frames off the shelf that will not break the bank..many come with precut mats

Hope this helps

THANK YOU!

I have been thru a period where I have had my photography skills mocked and dismissed and I really needed the validation from a nonbiased source.

(I am making the HUGE assumption that they didn't pick EVERYONE that entered to be in the exhibit..LOL )
