I made it halfway through this thread and went... 'Thanks for the birth control DPS"

And now, I'm going to retire to my front lawn with a beer to yell at kids (that aren't mine) to stay off my lawn and then hold their laptops hostage with a shotgun if they talk back.

Also, that last bit isn't true because I live in Canada and we don't have guns up here but the beer part definitely is true . Its saturday night here shuddupimdrunk.

Also also, Peach, send your little sister to me so I can introduce her to my similarly aged and equally lazy room mates, maybe once they live in each others laziness (read: filthy and unhygienic) they will learn a thing or two about work ethic.

The ONLY thing that I agree with about this whole thing is that he followed through with what he said he would do. However, judging from his Facebook page, I think it was more for his own agenda than anything else. He could have very easily donated that laptop to one of the charities he has no problem touting how many donations have been received since this video went viral.

I live with two teenagers, and yes, it gets VERY bad sometimes, but I would never ever dream of publicly humiliating them like he did. I also think back to some of the stupid shit I pulled when I was 16. Some of which was much worse than complaining about doing chores. I think it's a bullshit cop out, and it's not setting any kind of example or raising the bar whatsoever. It's keeping the cycle going. At some point the high road needs to be taken.

I still can't help but feel that this was fabricated for the most part. Selling shell casings on Ebay? Are they serious? Even the daughter seems to be getting involved. All this money rolling in, so she wants him to put a bullet in her phone because "she doesn't need it anymore". Just to get money? Some lesson he taught! I hope their 15 minutes are up soon. This is beyond absurd. I am also astounded at everyone that thinks this guy is some kind of hero for building a cash cow at his family's expense.

This is quite possibly the dumbest post on this thread.

So what exactly are you saying here? Since your parents brought you into this world they owe you a laptop, or an mp3 player, or the latest style in clothing. How about the latest & greatest phone? Give me a break! The only things you are actually owed as a child is nourishment, a roof over your head, clothing to protect you from the elements, & protection from the evils of this world. That doesn't mean you are owed the latest & greatest of each of those items. It means you are owed the minimum that the parent is able to provide. As a child, you have the right to demand these minimums. You don't have the right to demand anything more! If your parents give you more than the bare minimum, you should be grateful for their charity. That's right, I said CHARITY. Anything more than what you are owed is CHARITY or some may call it a GIFT.

Any of you folks out there that are still under the care & protection of your parents should be grateful to them. I'm sure they could think of a thousand different things that they would rather spend their money on than to have to buy you a new phone just because little Bobby or Susie down the street got a new one.

I need a clapping emoticon. This is exactly what I am trying to get across, and by the way exactly what the police and child welfare here will tell a child who wants to gets sassy or even violent with a parent because they can't have whatever they want.

Nurturing is not a Right nor is it Charity, it's an obligation that goes beyond food and shelter, for me there'll be no end date.

Pretty much what I thought - you're saying that anyone who can't afford to buy materialistic items for their kids, who don't have the ability or funds, then they are awful parents. No yes or no about it, that IS what you're saying.

Most schools in america do not have laptops in classes and do not require kids to have them.
In the UK, pre-school's now have laptops for kids to use (3,4,5, year olds).

For this...

Also school systems do not require families to even have computers or internet in their home
.. reason.

I FULLY support ACCESS to a computer, but to own one is NOT a necessity. There are libraries, Internet cafes, books, pens and paper for the very reason of providing the public with the things they might not be able to attain themselves.

I might not agree but very well said.I have not looked into the after effects or the fame he has gained by this so I really can't talk about that.

There are all kinds of teens in this world and I have seen many. There are many teens who do straiten up and learn respect through a bit of public humiliation. I have never done anything to this extent mind you but I never had to. The worst humiliation I had to dish out was when at the football game (I was helping with the snack stand) I overheard a teen using some vulgar words right behind me. Yes, the F bomb was dropped. I turned around and it was my 17 year old!!! He didn't realize I was standing behind him at the time. His friends' eyes got pretty big when they saw me ...but dummy kept at it.
I tapped him on the shoulder, he turned..and well... was very surprised to see me
I did it in a joking manner but pulled his ear very close to my mouth (in front of his laughing friends) and told him, "We have irish spring at the house, not the good tasting stuff. AM I clear?!" Then looked over to his laughing friends and reminded them I know all of their parents and went to school with a few myself ~ they stopped laughing at that

Another example would be my 15 year old using "WTF" on his FB with his very conservative grandma on his FB friend list. She reamed him out royally on his page. She also wrote that he owed her a 500 word essay on why cursing was disrespectful and ignorant. He came to me and asked me to get him out of writing. I told him if I did she would make me write an essay about parenting and he better sit down and get to writing HA HA

Kids that have serious emotional problems do not benefit from a bit of humiliation. Kids that are full of themselves, outgoing and need to be brought down a peg or two this is a great tool for parents to use. It just depends on the crime and the kid.

Silly question that has nothing to do with anything. Having kids and surviving the teenage years are 2 very different things HA HA

2) Chances are it was her laptop.
No. Take it to court ..talk to a judge. Children under 18 do not own property.period. Everything is their parents' property. Kids own NOTHING. Their parents allow them to use and borrow what is the parents' property but again ...kids own nothing.
It is actually a semi joke in my house.... when one my teens says something like, "Its my laptop or its my TV" I laugh until they rephrase the statement to "Its your TV that you let me keep in my room..."

By your interpretation your claim is that I think the guy who shot his daughters laptop is a good parent because he bought her a laptop. get real

What would be better? That he allow his angel girl to speak like that, maybe go out and drink and drive.. or do drugs and not say anything because its "her life" or he doesn't want to embarrass her by grounding her?

There are way too many parents out there that do nothing and allow their kids to become monsters without any manners. self respect or self discipline. I find that a much worse crime.
At least this dad cared enough to stop his daughter from her destructive habits.
