It uses some weird new technology to allow you to adjust focus as you want through various "zones" AFTER you take the picture. The caveat: SUPER low res (max 600x600px) and really not that accurate focus selection

It's largely a technology demonstration project. I've been convinced that there might be a use case for a higher-resolution version eventually, but right now I can't see how this would improve my photography.
FWIW, per Scott Bourne, the company has very strong funding and plans to exploit the technology heavily. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do in a few years.

I read the theory behind it and it will definitely work, it uses information from neighboring pixels to make the adjustments, but the trade-off is significantly reduced resolution. When 100 MP sensors become cheap, it'll be wonderful
