I was looking at the 24-70 f2.8 which is an FX for my D300s but someone has suggested the 17-55 f2.8 which is a DX for short range work.
Anyone had any experience with either / both? |

Both fines lenses. Depends what you wish to use them for and if, perhaps you might want to get an FX in the future. Also depends whether you have any other lenses that overlap or underlap the above. I used a 28-70 2.8 (previous model) on my D7000 and now a D700 - is was great on both - larger field of view on the FX of course. You might get more advice if you supply more info as suggested. Cheers.

I've got the 24-70.. It's my favourite lens. I find it a bit long for some landscape work, and have considered the 16-35 VR2, but so far I'm making do. I'm going to be moving to FX camera in a few weeks which will give me the same field of view on the 24-70. The 24-70 range is perfect for doing close portraiture, less than about 30mm and you start to get some serious distortions, and over 70 is a little long for close portraiture on a DX. My only complaint about this lens is lack of VR but that's not really a big issue at these focal lengths, other than that, I really struggle to find anything I don't like about it (aside from the price!!)
Since you've got the top of the range DX lens, if you can, I'd avoid buying DX lenses.. Your next obvious choice for a camera is an FX, and then all your DX lenses automatically become defunct.
