Default Slides to Digital

I queried here a few months ago on methods to convert slides (as in thousands) to digital and got lots of good DIY methods. But I just read about yet another way:

Actually projecting slides onto a screen and photographing the screen.

Has anyone tried this? Any success?

Thanks,

Tim

This guy tried that, but said the results weren't great.

I don't know why this url is blocked for me at work - Comparing Methods to Transfer Slides to Digital

The methods I read about work in this way: Project the photo onto a thin sheet of paper at a size that fills the frame when photographing using a macro lens at the closest setting. Photograph from the opposite side of the paper. Surround the whole set up using something to keep out ambient light.

The only issue I have with this method is that you're unlikely to get consistent light strength projected across the screen, it's likely to be brighter at the centre than the edges, exacerbating any vignetting caused by the lens. The advantage of a moving light scanner is that the light strength is consistent across the image.

Thanks both - I'm learning that there is no quick way to do this!
