Default One day my lens will come

My lovely husband is buying me the lens I covet as a birthday gift. Sadly my birthday has been and gone and still the lens is not available. When I placed the order a couple of weeks ago I was advised deliver in early February.

This is the message I got from the shop today:-

Hi Lisa, spoke to our Nikon rep yesterday, he said, unconfirmed delivery in 4 weeks.
So realistically 4-6 weeks.

The problem is with the flooding in Thailand last year, the Nikon factory was severely damaged by the flood, and some lens ( and camera) component manufacture was effectively halted for 2-3 months.
So there is currently a worldwide shortage of a number of lenses including the 18-200VR.

Sorry I can’t be more accurate with the ETA, but Nikon themselves don’t really know when they are getting stock until it lands in Australia.

Kind regards, Ben.

Is anyone else suffering from this worldwide shortage of gear??

There have been a few posts in this forum re problems - not just Nikon and lenses.
Both events in Northern Japan last year and Thai floods are a cause.

Hm, I haven't been around much lately. Must have missed the other posts.

I will just have to cool my heels like everyone else, I know. Doesn't solve the frustration tho. And hubby's disappointment that his gift didn't arrive in time.

Darn it Lisa - if I'd known I could have sold you mine for a great price. It sold on Ebay within a couple of hours. It was the latest Vr11 and used very little.

And hippy bithday for whiniver it was

Now you've got me worried - my birthday is tomorrow and I'm anticipating/hoping for a Nikon V1.

And happy belated birthday!

Just look at Sony's quarterly results to see what has happened to their production.

The V1 isnt assembled in Thailand like the dSLR stuff. It's made in China. FX bodies and pro lenses are in japan, all CX gear is China, DX and just about everything else is Thailand.

Doh! It never occurred to me to ask on here if anyone had one for sale.
I did contact a place in Aus that claimed to have the lens in stock, but they're asking $300 more than I can (eventually) get one here.
And thanks!
