Default For those clammering about LR4

As I've noted before, the changes in the LR develop module are, in actuality, changes in ACR.

Adobe doesn't really emphasize that because they know that a lot of folks will buy LR4 because it is "new and improved."

The fact is, if you wait for the update to ACR, you'll be getting all the same improvements.

Here's a preview video: Sneak Peek #1 - YouTube

Note that the only way at the moment to play with any of these changes is the LR4 Beta (another smart, if misleading marketing ploy), but they are pretty impressive.

I tried out the beta version and really didn't like it. The thing is, it really pulled my laptop down and it's a Win7 w/4GB RAM. I run LR3 and CS5 at the same time and they're jet-quick. But, when I was running LR4 beta all by itself, it just slowed way down.

Maybe it just isn't for me - I dunno.

Uh oh. I have almost the same setup. Win7 32bit, dual core, 4GB ram LR3 is fine, but now I'm afraid to try 4. I don't use CS at all. I'm getting ready to upgrade machines though. The boot sector on my hard drive has been kinda buggy lately. It's 5 years old and tired! lol!

When LR 3 came out, it was significantly slower than LR 2 (and continues to be).

I'm running LR4 beta on a quad-core 2.93GHz machine with 16GB RAM and it's SLLLLooooowwwwww. LR3 is slow too, but not quite like the beta. We'll see if the pace picks up when the final version of 4 comes out.

We have about the same thing, Luke. Mine is a 64bit - don't know if that has something to do with it, though. My laptop is only about 6 months old.

As it's still in beta there may yet be performance issues that Adobe will have to iron out before the application goes to RTM (public release). Especially if the application isn't even in Release Candidate status yet.

I have and use LR3. Tried LR4 and didn't like it as it was very slow compared to 3 and the improvements/add ins were not that impressive. I will most likely stay with 3.

Are you suggesting that with this upgrade to ACR, LR3's develop module will have all the same features as LR4's?

No, I'm saying that with this update to ACR, ACR will have the same features as those in the LR4 Beta develop module.
