Default Anyone ever get rainbows in their shots? causes?

I was out today practicing my photography and was taking photos of a house. The first few were fine (shutter 80, f/14, iso 100) then in one shot I got a rainbow prisom right in the middle of my shot. Timing between shots was about 20 seconds so says my EXIF info. After that 1 rainbow shot, I didn't move and didn't change settings and got a normal photo.

I am OCD about keeping my lens clean. I am hoping something isn't wrong with my lens!!!

For a "real" rainbow there needs to be moisture and there wasn't any at the time as it was a pretty morning. Out of the 7 shots I took of the front of the house ~ not moving from my position at all ... only 1 rainbow.

Its a cool effect as long as it doesn't mean my lens is screwed up lol

I didn't upload the photo yet.

May be flare, caused by unwanted light hitting the front of the lens..

Are you using a filter on the lens?
If so remove it.
Using a lens hood may help.
If you can see it whist looking through the viewfinder then use something to shade the front of the lens.

I just uploaded the shot. If it was lens flare it would have done it on the other photos that were taken less then 20 seconds apart, wouldn't it?

I marked 3 arrows that are points of interest. The rainbow, center field. A greeen splotch top center and then a green strait line right top.

Also, all of my other photos came out properly exposed. As you can see this one blew out everything.

"If it was lens flare it would have done it on the other photos that were taken less then 20 seconds apart, wouldn't it? "

No (unless you are shooting in a totally controlled environment - including constant light, camera position, camera settings (including focal length) and subject position.)

The exif is different for the defective picture.

Camera Canon EOS REBEL T3i
Exposure 0.008 sec (1/125)
Aperture f/13.0
Focal Length 28 mm
ISO Speed 200

Not - "(shutter 80, f/14, iso 100)"

----------------

That looks like flare.

It's either flare, or magic/the divine.
I don't believe in the devine or magic.
So it's flare.
Definitely.
Even a slight shift of your lens between shots (even if .5 seconds apart), can make it just so that the flare will happen. It's always a possibility when looking towards a light source.

It could be from that roof. The glass in the window could have split the light

The only other possibility I can think of involves a polarizer. I've found rainbows that are actually only visible through a polarizing filter.

I copied the wrong EXIF info from another shot I had HA HA
I got them mixed up as it was late. I do have 6 clear shots with the 1/125, f/13,ISO 200

I was worried something might be wrong with my lens. Glad to hear its just lens flare. I will have to start using my lens hood with the sun out. I don't own a polarize filter just yet =p
