I've just been asked to be a guest speaker for a photography club up the country somewhere.
*I* don't even like my own photos and, really, they aren't that good - I get the occasional good shot but on the whole, I really don't think my photo's are that great. Which I'm guessing is my issue because I've won various competitions, been told by some teenagers that .. "..because you have inspired me a lot with your work and I hoping to be a photographer when I'm older and open a business like you have.." and now a whole club want me to be a guest speaker. So any tips? What am I supposed to say? How am I supposed to convince people that my photos are worthy of "guest speaker" status when I don't even like them myself? :/ Fear Mode : ON

I suggest lying through your teeth.. Give them a load of BS that you don't really believe.

You can randomly start spouting the virtues of a Darwinian society with a Thoreauianesque landscape while droning on and on about how Jean Paul Sartre was just a humanistic as the rest of the bunch. All the while rolling your wrist and dropping the term 'oh how drole!" every third sentence and ending with a certain, "je ne sais qoui".
Oh you could just talk about photography... whatever floats your boat

I say show up drunk/unwashed, puke on the front row, rant about the evils of the 1%ers, then grab the check and storm out, just like any REAL artist would do.
But seriously, find out what they want to learn about or a specific topic and expound on that. Congrats.

Can't you display/project some of your competition-winning and/or inspirational photos and narrate to the club what you wanted to get out out of the shot and why you set it up a certain way?

Well that's the thing, I very rarely "setup" a shot. I go out and take pictures of things I see that look potentially interesting :P I really don't have a big thought process when it comes to taking photos
