I'm having a little health hickup at the moment and the body is ruling what i can do. The camera is not put away yet, i can still hold my camera for short sessions but i know i have to pace myself, no more hiking into my fav sandunes or stalking birds for 4 hrs. My last 2 photo shoots came at a price but i dont regret taking them, one was a portraite shoot with my daughter and the other a quick stop to capture a magic moment. The thought of not being able to take photos has me shaken as much as when they threw the Big "C" in the mix of what could be wrong.
Please this is not a "poor me" moment but more if you love photography as much as i do dont let a moment pass you by, get out and take that photo you have driven past a million time or put off because life is to busy, live life and make the most of ever moment, as we never know what tomorrow has to bring. I may be down at the moment but i'm not beaten i have far to much yet to learn and achieve with photoghraphy and a life that i have not finished living ![]() Cheers Jo

Hi Jo!
Damn, we never know what's around the corner, but things have come a long way and you'll find your way through this unwanted episode and back to where you were. I had my "C" scare and after 5yrs things are still looking good. Many friends have gone through various degrees of this invasive beast and have nailed it because of (a) medical progress and (b) their positive attitudes. You have certainly have the latter and, being such an obsessive and a really gifted photographer, you are meant to keep providing the wonderful images you produce for everyone who knows your talents and those yet to discover them. All the very best to you on your road to recovery. [Edit] And yes, it would certainly be difficult to do without photography. So don't. Bruce.

To answer the question, yes I could...I did for a decade "in the middle".
On the other hand, there is nothing that says yo need to lug a DSLR kit and all the crap in order to take pictures or be a photographer. Yeah, there may be some types of photography that will be limited but there are others to take their place.

My wife has a little point and shoot that does a great job, has a nice zoom and good color rendition. It's pocket sized and lighter than my kit lens. Despite liking my dslr, I'm going to get one like the p&s for hiking, because of weight. I hike to hike, because I like it I take pictures during it. But I don't hike to take pictures specifically.
