Exclamation Calender

For the next year, I plan on trying to capture a picture that explains something about each month, or something that will only happen in that month. I decided that I wanted to do this about half way through the month, and ever since can't think of something for January! If I would have thought of this in 2011, I would've tried to catch something New Years related, but I was too late. Anyone have ideas? If it helps, I live in a area where by this time, we have 3-4 feet of snow on the ground already, so its not beaches and sunshine here.

Then that's what you should capture! Every place in the world is different so, capturing your area would be what makes your calender different.

It's an awesome idea and I'd really like to see your images!

Okay, I guess I'll give that a go then. Haven't done much landscape photography but I guess I have to give it a try sometime! I'll let you know how it goes and maybe post a pic or two.

Doesn't necessarily have to be a landscape, but something to show the seasons would set the mood. For instance, if January has snow where you live...go for some branches or berries covered with snow or icicles. Animals out during winter are also nice. Doesn't have to be wildlife, could just be a dog frolicking in the snow. Or if there's an icy pond where local kids ice skate...lots of ideas for a calendar. Think of themes for the month. February has Valentine's Day, March has St. Patrick's Day, etc.

Best of luck!

Two years ago, I did a project where I took a picture of the Tahquamenon Falls, Mackinac Bridge, Burton Memorial Tower and the Michigan Union each month of the year. So for last year, I made a calendar using the Mackinac Bridge pictures. Last year, I took pictures of a couple of the local parks. This year, I plan to use Belle Isle. They all turned out pretty well.

Well, its the 29th and I finally got the time to go take a couple hours to take the picture for the month that I had planned. I'm rather disappointed, and am even more disappointed that I waited so that if I did mess up, like I did, I now have no time to retry. Here is the pic since you mentioned you would like to see it. This is with no editing, and I'm far from a pro at editing, too so I'll see what I can do but the calender project may quickly come to an end.
