Kodak Filed chapter 11 bankruptcy yesterday. This is something many of us photographers have seen coming for the past few months. The company says the film business is still profitable and plan to keep production. However I would think the film years are numbered. Most of the people who are still using it are photographers who use it for the quality and uniqueness for art, and medium to large format photographers. I use it for basically all my personal architecture and land scape photography.
Join me. If you still have a film SLR please support Kodak by braking it out of the attic or basement and buy a few rolls of Ektar or Portra and go out shooting this month.. Show Kodak We still love their film. If you need a film camera that you will have a blast with I would suggest getting a Nikon FM2n off ebay. You wont regret it. Kodak 35mm Ektar 100 Color Negative (Print) Film 6031330 B&H Post your film photos you take here.. One thing that film still does better in is dynamic range. ![]() ![]()

I have a roll each of Ektar100 and PortraVC160 in my bag right now, and there's a roll of Portra 400VC in my medium format system too.
This is Ektar 100, 35mm, in Alaska. ![]()

FYI for those who want to use it its best around 65iso or so.. Also if out side shoot from a shaded area gives the best results.

There is something so sad about this. I certainly hope for the sake of the art itself that this is just a restructuring and film won't disappear completely in the future. If it does most people will probably go on with life as usual, but there will be something of our expression and history lost. Very good idea to get out and show Kodak some love for their high quality over the years.

Sad, but Kodak had the inventor of digital photography working for them- they should have managed change sooooo much better. See the link below...

Okay, so they are failing. Fuji still makes film. I would hate to see film die off completely, but it's like 8 tracks, floppy discs, the 110 camera, and soon - CDs. Nothing is forever.
However - having once made the mistake of installing that horrid "easyshare" software on a computer at work for a Kodak PoS we bought, I can say, "payback is a female dog" That stuff was the most bloated, over-reaching junk of software since AOL. I have an ESP-7 Kodak printer. Its crap. Wastes ink, falls off the network, and won't scan when it runs out of ink, just sits there with an error message. I want my canon printer back. Someone will fill the gap where its needed.

Not yet it may be a good one to try. I think I tried Velvia 100. it was very close or better that ektar 100.. I still like the colors of Ektar. I guess its time to go try some other films the Velvia 50 might be a good shot. Mainly I dealt with their 200 speed film.

As far as film goes, to me it seems analogous to vinyl. Far out of the mainstream now (heck, CD albums are out of mainstream now) but still alive under an enthusiast following.
