Default Worlds most expensive photograph.

A friend of mine 'shared' this on facebook today. Just thought I'd share it again with you friendly people.

I saw this awhile back and to this day I cannot understand why this image is so valuable. It reminds me of the artist who got a million for a blank canvas.

I sense there is some "artistic elitism" at work here.

Yes, this was brought up in a thread last year - caused quite a discussion.

Of course, it's always good to show that phortograph and it's sale price for getting the maximum price for your own images

I remember that thread, I made quite a few posts there about just not "getting it" lol. If anything, I think pictures like that just encourage more people to go out and take crappy photos and try to charge for them. No offense to the people here who did actually like the picture lol.

I don't like the photo myself, but obviously someone did. And if I was the photographer, I (obviously) wouldn't be complaining. Art is truly in the eye of the beholder.

And I have this theory about (some) people and money. It's as though they think that something is automatically better if you have to spend more on it. Now, in some cases I have to agree, but to me, this is like buying a book from a Big W for $15 or buying the same one from Angus and Robertson for $39. It's not going to be better, just cause you paid more. (And yes, this theory could just be because I'm poor! )

PS, can anyone link me to the old thread...?

Yep. I just don't understand it.
There's no real subject in that photo. The horizon line is smack in the middle of the picture. In my personal opinion, it's a kinda boring photograph.
I'm not saying it's a bad photo, (it's not) I'm just saying that I don't think it's worth $4.3 million. I've seen a few pictures in my lifetime that I think are better than that one.
But what do I know!

BTW, here's the other thread. Sold a photo for $4 how good is that? There's a link somewhere in it to another thread started on that same topic.
Enjoy.

Only when you understand this; "reverse exploration of the poetic", can you understand the price.

I cannot.

If you up the grain on the jpeg, and squint really hard with a bright lamp just above your screen, you can just make out the artist laughing in your face.

(good for him... I wish it was me!!)
