Default Lens Hood

Got a lens hood the other day for my 50mm and went out on a walk today with my camera. Took some shots from an area that i had been to before where the sun had given me problems. Problem is the hood didnt stop me from getting flare in the shots. Now, I havent post processed at all yet and dont necessarily mind the flare to a point. However, I have a feeling its going to be a problem in the photo. Why isnt the hood stopping the flare???

The hood isn't magic. If the sun is still falling on the lens then you will still get flare. It's kinda like wearing a baseball cap, even with it on you can't look at the sun, you have to turn your head so the bill is shielding your eyes. So you still have to be aware of where you are aiming in relation to the sun.

Depends on the angle you are in relation to the sun. If you're facing towards the sun and you're at an angle where the light can hit the glass, then you'll get a glare. The lens hood just minimizes the area by a lot. I have one photo where there's serious lens flare because the sun was just out of the shot. But it's also stopped it in a lot of other situations where I normally would've had it.

There's a lot of photographers who use natural lens flare to add drama to their image too

We'll see how it turns out after PP.. ill post it in the critique section in a day or two. like i said above.. i dont necessarily mind it. I think it has the potential to look neat. Im just not sure about it yet in this particular shot.
