Default Submitted Assigment.. so now what...

I am new to photography.. other than everyday 'wanna be'. I received a Canon RebelT3 for Christmas. I have enrolled in the class and am wondering "Ok, so now what?"

I have begun reading the "tips" and articles. I have submitted Assigment #1, So Now What Happens??...

Please explain the logistics and procedures of how this works..

Thanks in advance for anything you can help me in getting the most out of DPS classes.

Put your hands on your hips, spin around three times and jump into the air. When you land you'll be a photographer.

Kidding aside, there are many, many tutorials here. Read an learn as much as you can, submit photogrpahs in the Critique section for feedback (follow the rules). Go to Digital Photography Techniques for plenty of info. Type in Exposure Triangle to start with. Happy hunting!

Thanks Bruce.. I've already tried the Spinning technique.. visual results weren't pretty.. lol just kidding..

Can I send a link to my final Collections on flickr and have someone look at what I am doing right as a whole??? or just an individual picture for critique? I am looking to funnel and pinpoint where to start by what is coming natural for me. I will go to Exposure Triangle and go from there; following your lead to this post. Thanks so much.

It's usually very overwhelming for anyone starting out and taking photography seriously. Folks here aren't that fussed in following links when it is so simple to upload images from Flickr (See FAQS). The best way to learn here is (a) go to the tutorials, both in the forum and on the main blog site and submit images to the critique section. When you do, try to describe what you think is wrong with the image and then ask for help. Don't just post and say "what's wrong with this". And post the exif data (see critique rules) because that helps others to help you. Also read others critiques - that can be helpful as well. Cheers and welcome to the forums.

A tip on the assignments:

Try to do something that no one else will do. Think outside the box...something original. It'll make your photo stand out.

As for what to do now, go shoot something you enjoy. Learn by doing.

Besides what everyone else has said I would suggest you start taking some of your images that you think have potential, or you know you got something wrong but can't figure it out, and start posting in the critique section (but read the rules first please!) and start getting feedback.

But as noted, and I can't emphasize the importance.. shoot shoot shoot and shoot some more. And in the time in between, read about photography and look at as many photos (flickr.com's great for this) as possible and get inspired.

Good luck and welcome.

So THAT'S the magic step I've been missing! Ugh, all this time I thought it was more practice that was going to get me there. Well now I feel stupid

Well, you basically get frustrated and p***ed off with the inevitably predictable 'winners' and then realise that the Assignments section is really about getting more web-presence for the site.

The gems to find here are the critique section, there is a lot to learn here, and the tutorials which are pretty wide ranging.

you cant just 'do' good photography, there is a mixing of skill and art. As your artistic side grows, so should your appreciation of the technical side too.. the trick is to try and develop both at a gentle pace, dont run before you can walk, it always ends in disappointment (and usually expense).... I know, have done it many times.

Me too...! I thought that it was all about having fancy equipment and a lot of practice that made you a photographer! Well good grief, all this time I've been practicing to be a photographer for no reason at all. Now I can be one in just a matter of seconds, thanks to this new trick!

So... do you need to have any special shoes on when you jump in the air? Or can I just wear my house slippers?!

(Kidding, of course. lol)
