You're going to need a faster lens. I think that one only opens up to f4...?

Also, what settings are you using?
You'll have to learn the camera a bit so that you can ensure you are getting the best possible shutterspeed (you'll likely need 1/125th). If you're able to, you'll need to bump up the ISO quite a bit.

It's really tough for us to tell you what to do not knowing what the conditions are, but what's usually the case in these sort of "in the gym" thing is that there isn't enough light and your shutter speed is too slow.
If you're using the auto settings are you putting it on "sports"?If not, try that.

Sadly, this might be one of those cases where you might have to buy better kit. Usually answers will be about technique/knowledge/etc.. but when there's not enough light, you either have to create light (flash) or get a faster lens that works well in low light conditions..

One thing I can suggest is to find the Exif info on the images that you feel were close enough to the action. For example, if your exif says you shot the photo at 50mm, you can probably go out and get your camera's equivalent of the 50mm 1.8 which is a fast lens... but if you need a lens with longer reach it'll start to cost you.

Sorry there's not much more I can say without seeing an example photo.
Maybe you have bad camera holding technique?
If we saw a sample with exif info we could narrow it down possibly exactly to what the problem is.
Good luck
