I really want the sony a77.

I really want the sony a77 with the rather nice f2.8 16-50mm constant ap lens.

I need neither.

I have a perfectly functional a700, and I dont need more than 12MP

The a77 does however feel very lovely in my hands, and the electronic viewfinder really is something else.

My argument/reasoning for the purchase (if I go ahead) means that my a700 can come with me everywhere in the car (without me being ultra worried about it), and I have the a77 for when im planning photography, and for the full HD 60fps video it will take of my son growing up.... he is now nearly 4 months. I dont see the point in paying out for a camcorder with a relatively crappy lens.

So am I being mental?..... should I just stick with the a700, or should I buy it.?.......

While the products they make are generally good, I have a real problem with their anti-piracy agenda (they originally supported SOPA...some parts of the company still do). It tends to seep into their electronics, a long with proprietary media and other non-standard hardware, some of which isn't found until months after purchase (remember root kits?).

I like to vote with my dollars, and Sony Electronics will never get another dime from me.

Actually Sony wasnt my choice, Konica/Minolta was.

I am so heavily invested in their glass (and now a bit of sony's) that a change in system now just isnt viable.... plus I dont like to conform too much, so Canon or Nikon is out.... and I certainly wont be opting for a pentax setup!

I too have issues with SOPA, but wont be letting that effect my camera choice.

The a100 (on loan to my father) and the a700 are basically rebadged K-M cameras.... and the new line-up is still based on what I think was a pretty solid K-M line-up of film then digital...... I love the fact that I dont shell out on image stabilisation in each lens I buy too....

So...... the 'system' isnt up for changing, if that makes sense....
