Sounds neat. I have been reading up on filters a bit lately. I am not ready to use one just yet though lol

Why not? They're just filters - no biggie...

ya i bought that one just to play with. The only one ill actually put to use frequently i think is the polarizer. Although i do have UV filters on all of my lenses.

Have to say, Im a bit fazed by the use of filters too. Manly because I dont know which ones to get that I would use on a regular basis. I understand the UV aspect but other filters, what they do just draws a blank. Is there anything on here that explains their use etc.

And the UV one just happens to be the one that's pretty pointless as far as shooting goes with digital cameras lol. Some people use them as lens protection, but that's a debate I don't want to start on this thread lol. The polarizer filter is great for shooting outdoors. It gives you a more vibrant sky, and it removes a lot of reflections, like on water. It also drastically cuts through fog/mist, which can come in handy when shooting in the mountains. It does have it's downsides though, you have to be careful how you use it. It can create dark and light areas in the corners of the sky if you're not facing the right direction in relation to the sun. But it has been said that it's pretty much the only filter that can't be faked digitally "so far". The ND filter "Neutral Density", is great for when you need longer exposures in bright sunlight. That's the filter being used when you see a lot of those silky smooth streams.
