Unfortunately I've been in that boat too. I was at the drag strip nearby and it was a huge night. I missed the best run of the entire day/night because I let go of my camera to grab my drink...As soon as I seen everything happening, I tried to grab for my camera, while dropping my drink and having it splash all over my shoes. And ended up just snapping shots blindly, and none of them came out. That was 6 months ago and I still kick myself in the butt for it. So I just waited until I wasn't PO'ed about my stupid mistake, and then looked at the ones I did manage to get.

Last year it happened to us at a local air show. We were parked just outside the airport west of the runway, & there was an awesome fighter jet flying so low, we could almost reach out & touch it as it flew past. We had only had the D7000 for a short time, so it was the first test shoot. We didn't get one decent pic out of the whole bunch. Auto focus wasn't working right, & I tried everything to make some good shots. I'll try again this year. Won't throw in the towel that easily. Hopefully, we'll have some better luck & some decent pics to share.

Some days everything goes off without a hitch, & some just suck.

It happens all the time. Couple of days ago I was listening to Clive Limpkin on radio. He was shooting in India for his book and he said he missed a shot of a tiger leaping in the air - he didn't actually miss it but the tiger was not in focus. He said he will regret missing that shot for rest of his life. So relax, it happens to best of us. That's why I personally hate taking pictures of anything moving. Technical competence required for something like that is pretty huge.

This is why I'll shoot for a couple days before uploading my cards and looking at what I've got.

By the time I get to the bad set, I've got 3 or 4 other sets to look at, at the same time. Even If an entire set gets blown and useless, with 3 or 4 sets to look at, SOMETHING, is going to be great, and I never get frustrated.

I blew an entire day couple weeks ago shooting bighorn sheep. I went with a photographer I'd met and he showed me where they were. We got up early, drove 2 hours to location and shot ALL DAY. I knew my AF system on that lens wasnt quite right, so I made a quick adjustment at the beginning, shot all day, didnt find out until a week later that I adjusted it the wrong freakin way. every one of my shots was slightly out of focus, but I did luck out and get 2 shots that wernt "too" bad, so it wasn't a total wash. Though I'm already making plans to get back up there and do it again.

We all just need to accept that not every outing is going to create an image for our portfolio. Sometimes an outing is going to just be a good example of what NOT to do ;D

Truth be told though, I learn more on those outings I totally bork than I do on the outings that turn out great. You focus on the great images on the good outings, not "why" the bad ones were bad. With a bad outing, you focus on "what" you did wrong, learn, and (hopefully) never do THAT again lol.

Thanks for the pep talk ..all of you. I had just gotten home and was still pretty frustrated. I am usually an upbeat person who looks at the positive side... I just forgot. Now that I have a glass of wine and my daughter rubbed my feet (had to pay her $1 haha) I am feeling better. I did get a few shots that weren't too bad...thank GOD for camera RAW and PP

This is one of the many things I was dealing with all day =(

By the time I would get the shot set up, the exposure right, the damn things would fly off

Next time so help me ~ I AM BRINGING SUPER GLUE lol

No PP will fix blurry moving wings. A split second later he was gone...

From the photographer's point of view, it's always frustrating but, if you think about it, nobody will comment on the shots you missed. They'll only talk about your best shots.
Not a bad thing in the end.

All I have to say is if you hear on the news about some crazy lady who got arrested for super gluing butterflies at the bug zoo... I might be absent from the boards for a few days...
