Chapter 11 is reorg, not dissolve. So they will still be around, just not exactly the same.

Especially sad for those of us who grew up in Rochester, NY, hometown to Kodak and the largest employer in that city for many years. 30 years ago, everyone in my neighborhood worked for Kodak or a supplier for Kodak. There were many transfers into my neighborhood and many who left my neighborhood to work all over the world for Kodak. I was always jealous of those kids who got free film and free developing since one or both parents worked there.

Their presence has dwindled, they truly missed the boat on digital photography and seem to have many direction and leadership problems in recent times.

I'm thinking I may take a trip to the George Eastman House this weekend as I've always wanted to go there and it's only an hour away....

Sad many people will be losing their jobs but their products now are garbage for the most part so this really isn't a suprise to me.

As long as the reorganization is smart, they can potentially come out of this as winners.

They pretty much suck at digital. They need to face that fact in the eye and say: "There are a lot of people interested in analog photography with nowhere to get stuff. We need to get back to what we're good at. Dektol and Tx/Px film. Instead of EasyShares point and shoots, let's make EasyPrint enlargers. Let's make kits to convert a bathtub to a darkroom. Etc, etc."

When you play to your strengths, you win. When you jump on a bandwagon after it's started rolling away, you go bankrupt.

I wonder wether they'll just close down their photo branch and stick to their more successful printer division.
