Default old cameras

a friend of mine used to dabble with photography but has lost all interest now. because he knows i'm getting quite heavily into photography, he brought round some of his old equipment for me. unfortunately it is neither of interest nor of use to me. i cannot say this to him, i would not like to hurt his feelings. i did say that if there was anything i could not use i would give it away. he was okay with this. but, here is the big but, to whom do i give it???

there are some extension tubes which bear the wordsK2, K3, K4, K5: a Nikon F - 401; a Nikon FGaNikkor 50mm f1.8 lens which will not fit my Nikon D90; plus some other bits...

has anybody out there any ideas of what i can do with these items???

How about giving them away to a school?

I tend to be a big hoarder of crap, but am trying to be better these days.

Often this kind of stuff gets taken/accepted for the reasons you state.

Would it not be possible to explain that they are not going to be useful for you, but might be for someone who is looking to try film photography?

I would suggest to him that somewhere like ebay would be a good place to find someone interested. That way they will go to someone who will want/use them and he might get a little money that he could keep or give to charity.

I wouldnt think that schools would be too interested. I ran the photography 'club' at my school in the 1990s. I was the only member. In the end I got shut down because of 'health and safety'. I suspect that film photography is dead in mainstream schools.

What's wrong wih giving it to a charity shop? Or Ebay? Start it at a very low price with realistic postage, someone will buy it.

as for all the other suggestions: i do appreciate the time you've taken to reply. schools/clubs etc are not interested as the equipment is not digital; charity shops are inundated with this out-moded gear. it seems wrong to just dump it all in the bin!!!

but, thanks to all who replied

eBay!! Sell it on eBay! You could probably get some good money out of all that stuff, and you could use the money to buy some stuff that you actually need.

That should still work on your D90. There's definitely more to it though. Post some pics.

That number appears to correspond to a 50/1.8 AI-S, so it should definitely mount on the D90, though it will not meter.

I'm sure there are plenty of people that would be interested in it, for the right price, I'd love to buy it. If you're feeling guilty about selling something you got for free, then offer to share the proceeds from the sale with the original owner.
